Why to get SFC's

1 Attachment(s)
So I had a customer come by yesterday and wanted a ride in my car, so I much obliged. On the second rip, going into thrid gear, the driver T-top came off the car. Now I have not taken the T-tops off this car since the new motor was in, so I know I hadn't left the handle open. I also lock them to prevent anybody from playing around with the handle when they go grabbing for something. The T-Top was in the lock'd position when I went back to clean up the broken glass and collect all the parts. Here's a pic of the hole the T-top locks into. You can see the gouge the post made as it was torn upwards.

yea, I wished I had a picture of my subframe connectors on the car the driver side is bent down some. The impact from the front tire and wheel hitting the guard rail bent up the UMI lower control arm and the mount on the UMI K-member. just to give a 2 second summary of what happened. I was at the big end of the drag strip and the previous person drug some water down the track and the car lost traction at 130mph and slid into the right lane and tagged the wall. the car did a quick wiggle before it took off to the right.

No SFC here. I have a roll bar welded in that helps stiffen up the car. SFC wouldn't be bad. I just don't think they are necessary. Maybe I'll change my mind when I start cutting sub 1.40 60'.

Isn't it common sense to do sfc's (or some type of bracing) as one of your first mods BEFORE doing any bigtime performance mods.....I mean c'mon....t-tops+unibody= Pretzel

I STILL dont have SFC's. Even after I did heads/cam/th350/4400 stall/s60 w/4.10/full suspension/etc... LOL. I need SFC's and bad. I just tossed the motor a few months ago, so SFC's will go on the list of things to buy forsure. Starting to get little dimples in the quarter panels.

Only linking there because I haven't seen this posted anywhere on here. DO NOT trust the locks to hold the T-top in place, that's not what they are designed for. Also, the hold in plates are usually out of alignment from the factory so everyone should at least CHECK them.

I had a 10 point with no SFC's in my 96 and it did not do much.... had a roll bar in my 83 with SFC's and it was stiff as a rock....
