Without any prep or major body work? I've been quoted between 4 to 6K. I just read on FB someone got a Maaco job for $2500.00, so...

Theres a reason. ill rebuild every car or bike all day long that comes my way, **** body work and paint. The level of detail and monotony is enough to make you hang yourself.

Yeah just a hood. I have always liked the way the ultra z hood (4th gen) looks and i wanted to purchase one, i dont think it comes with major defects. i wanted to get it from vfn, thing is i wanted to have a shop to take it to ready.
but if it's going to cost thousands.... i don't know
about that. Going to find out some prices within next couple of days.

Ask your local automotive paint store who they recommend - they will know who pays their bills on time and does good work. Understand that body shops make most of their profit from insurance repair jobs and your work is not high priority or very profitable. So if you can wait a few weeks for them to paint it in between other jobs, you might get it cheaper.

My El Camino is at the two week point today at one of these shops for a full repaint inside and out. They have done the slight filler repairs already while the truck waits its turn in the paint booth. But I'm OK with the wait because it will be about $2600 plus whatever they charge me for two silver stripes down the middle of my cowl induction hood. I'm at least another week on waiting and I'm OK with that for the price.
