Dont Use Pacesetters on GTO's...

Dont use Pacesetter Headers on GTO's. We were tuning a heads, cam, procharger car from another local shop and the steering rack caught fire. Luckily the car isnt burnt bad, just lots of fire extinguisher dust...

yikes. looks like you guys caught it quick. that's weird... do they not check clearance after they make a header???

that looks wayy to close to the boot.

obviously it is...

I guess not!

ibanez7 Feb 23, 2007 10:57 AM

terrible design!!!

you2slo Feb 23, 2007 11:05 AM

Might want to post this on the GTO sight. Sucks for the customer.

Matt D Feb 23, 2007 11:06 AM

I assume their wasn't much R&D with their GTO headers. When they first came out with the long tube headers for 98-02 F-Bodies, there were several who complained about fitment problems. They eventually redesigned them and now they fit perfectly. Hopefuly with enough customer feedback, they will redesign these as well. Glad to see Dennis' car is okay.

jamesSS Feb 23, 2007 11:10 AM

thats nuts. good to here since im looking to get headers within the next few weeks.

NBM2001z28 Feb 23, 2007 11:22 AM

The driverside header was touching the steering rack boot, thus, caused the fire. Luckily it wasnt when the guy was doing like 130mph or something and the car burnt up.

As I told nick I told him that it had to be fixed before the injectors or any tuning just for the chance that it would ruin the rack. It would never catch on fire while driving because you have too much air flow, on the dyno its just sitting there with the fan thats why it got too hot. Either way I agree on the terrible design and no warning to the customer from pacesetter.

LiquidFire350 Feb 23, 2007 11:33 AM

thats nuts

you would think thats something they would check before selling

SmokinHot98 Feb 23, 2007 11:46 AM

couldnt you go after pacesetter for the damages? I mean it was a faulty desin that was bound to happen

NBM2001z28 Feb 23, 2007 12:25 PM

yeah but they'll say the installer is responsable for not seeing that they were touching, which was very easy to see.

thats crazy I spoke to Dennis and he's pretty upset :bang: . This is the same car that was leaking like crazy before the world of wheels also. :eek2: Somebody told one of my guys at the world of wheels he worked on the car. Glad I found Straightline when I did. :judge:

Glad to hear you're still happy ken! See ya tomarrow.:)

z11375ss Feb 23, 2007 08:45 PM

Couldn't you see the header would catch the rack on fire? Why would you give a guy his car back w/ that kind of a defect. No offense, but that's just a crap job.

I hope you're not thinking that Straightline did the install, because they didn't. The first post even says it was from anther shop.

That is a bad design. Good catch guys.
