Default "Special Financing Co, LLC"

There's a company that goes by this name--or went by this name--out in Virginia, by Fort Lee. They sell laptops to service members who haven't built up their credit yet.

$175/month for 36 months at 18.99% APR. I didn't read all the fine print when I signed it, and they send me letters telling me I owe them well over $2000. I've already paid over $1000 for a $600 laptop.

I'm just wondering if anybody else got caught with one of these kinds of scams, and how best to deal with it. I really don't have the kind of money to just give them $2000.

Actually, it shows up on my credit report as "Account closed satisfactorily." I'm now receiving letters from "Oak Rock Financial" addressed to "Jeremy Lrauss." Since my name is "Jeremy Krauss," should I just ignore it?

Yeah, didn't realize it...hopefully they don't have that number, the other company hasn't shown up in my credit report at all, just the original company with "Account Closed Satisfactorily."

Very true. I got raped when I bought my Jeep 4 years ago that I'm just about done paying off now. It's made me wiser with my money and has helped me budget my money better. I feel more self aware before making a large purchase now. Good luck getting things straightened out.

It happens, usually around miltiary places such as this, especially this one where everybody is AIT and wants to spend spend spend. I've seen it happen more times than not, just like Omni ect. The reason your account may say closed and in good standings is that they may have sold your account to somebody else to collect on.

Easiest thing is to talk to JAG or maybe even finance. I'd do JAG first though.

I stopped paying on it last May or so before I went overseas, but I'd been paying since February of 2009.
It's weird, because my credit report says Paradigm Acceptance Co, and I've got letters from Oak Rock Financial about an account with Special Financing Co. There's quite a bit about Paradigm as a scam online, but I didn't do my research before I bought the thing. naturally, none of these companies are with the BBB.

They had the same deals for laptops and video game systems near sheppard in texas. Younge and dumb and full of cash is what they are after and usually rape you! You need to contact the company on your credit report that currently has your debt and pay that sucker off. Call em tell em you dont have much money and your out of a job (even though thats not true **** them) and if they say the debt( yes its debt BAD on your credit report longer you leave it their worse itll get for you in the future) is a grand offer them 200 bucks to get rid of this and call it a day. They will see if they can and give you an offer usually 600-700 bucks you then say best you can do honestly is 350, if they still say no ask for $400 but with 2 payments.
Dont settle with them let them settle with you but take care of this asap so you dont do any more damage to your credit, i know from experience just dropped 2k yesterday doing that on multiple screw ups from credit cards when i was 18.

We put these places off limits at our command here so none of our students get raped.. We had kids getting tv's and xboxs for the low price of 4-5k by the time they paid it off!! BTW the tv's were MAYBE 30" at biggest lol. Some kids are just so gullible though.

you weren't warned about those places during your basic training?

Hell, I distinctly remember "dont stand out from the crowd", "dont wear dog tags out in public", "stay away from finance/payday loan places", "stay away from the bit titty bitches trying to sell you laptops"... on a fuggin daily basis it seemed
