Default Veterans day - need opinions

My daughter's 1st grade class is having a Veterans day program and I was invited - basically I dont feel like a Veteran. When I was active duty, my unit was deployed so I just sat back in the rear and trained. When I went over to the reserves, I was injured and wasnt allowed to deploy...so, although Im infantry, I have never seen combat. In other words, I dont think I deserve the honor of sitting next to real Vets and taking their credit.

Should I respectfully decline the invitation or go anyway and remain as inconspicuous as possible?

TIA

You did your part and joined and tried to deploy. You are a vet, just not a "combat vet"
Nothing wrong with that unless you intentionally skipped out to avoid it.

Go and enjoy yourself. You did more than most people. Most dont even join up.

Exactly, you are still considered a Vet just for your time served. Have fun, I'm sure your daughter will be proud of her daddy..

Do it. For one they are a bunch of first graders so they will be in awe anyway. Plus it will make your daughter very happy that she gets to brag and show off her daddy.

The 2 guys above me summed it up perfectly. Whether you think you're a vet or not, the government says you are. You served your country so you should be proud to go especially since you know your daughter will love having you show up.
