Default Reserves

I'm thinking about talking to a recruiter about joining the reserves, either the Air Nation Guard, USCGR or USMCR. What is the enlistment period like? Is it different for all of them? On the ANG site it says you can enlist for 3 years. Just wondering if its the same for all. Thanks for any info and thanks for serving

It must change them from service to service. On the MA ANG site it says you must enlist for not less then 3 years. For me, if I could get the MOS I want, 3 years would be just about perfect.

Hmmm, I read earlier that you had the option of 6x2, 5x3, 4x4 or 3x5.

Every initial enlistment period is 8 years. EIGHT. You choose the amount of time you want to be ACTIVE during that period. If you choose to serve 3 years as a reservist, you will still be living out your contract for 5 more years. However, during those 5 years, you do not go to your drill weekends or annual trainings or anything, but you can be called back into active service. So don't assume you can serve just 3 years and be done with it because there is always that chance.

He is correct. And after your intitial term of 3,4,5, or 6 years you will still have the intitial balance of the 8 years to go into the IRR (Individual Ready Reserve). But they are calling so many of them up now you might as well call it the Reserves.

Hes talking about just joining the reserves, Yes most of your enlistments require a 8yr MSO but also your enlistments are all diff.

Army Reserves is 1 to 6yrs of enlistments with an full 8yr MSO
