Default Reservists step inside

I have a question for anyone who has signed a reserve contract.

My contract was for 6 yrs reserve, and 2 years inactive. I've done a lot of active duty and stuff... but I'm trying to open my own business and the military has become a huge pain for me. My unit will do everything in their power to torture me if I mention this there, so I bring it here.

Due to my time in the DEP, my first sat year was completed in basic. I went to boot camp less than six years ago, but as of next month, I will have completed my sixth sat year. Does that mean that my reserve obligation is over? Or do I actually have to drill until six years after I went to basic? I know that my command will try to make me ride it out until next June, but I'd really rather be done with it.

Thanks in advance

your service obligation starts on the DAY you enter training.......meaning basic training. Your DOS on your ID should reflect your actual date of seperation. If not, make a visit to the portal(or AFPC) and look at your personel file. It should have a DOS in there as well...along with awards and decs, education etc.

Going into the DEP only cuts into your IRR time, not drills. For example I went into the DEP in August 2000 and left for boot camp November 2000. I still had to drill until November 2006 but I'm done with IRR in August of 08.

Whether you are active, guard or reserve, everyone that signs up has an 8 year obligation. Whether you do only 6 traditional reserve, you still have two years of obligation left.

Yeah... I think everyone knows that. But I've been once... if I go again, that'll just buy my 2009 Camaro for me.

DEP doesn't mean anything towards your actual time in. You didn't sign the official contract for enlistment until you swore in and got on the bus. I entered DEP 15 April 2003 and didn't leave until 16 December 2003. Guess when I get out?? 16 December 2009. Ya thats active service but I'm pretty sure it works the same way as reservist goes. But after that 6 years, its two years inactive service so you can move if you want. They call you up, you should report in to the nearest one wouldn't you??

How wrong you are... it DOES count against your IRR time if nothing else.

My only question was because my admin info states that I have accrued 6 satisfactory years in the reserves... I just don't know exactly how the contract reads. If it were for example to say that I "must complete six satisfactory years in the reserves" then my obligation would be fullfilled... if it were to say that I "must be a drilling reservist until 6 years following the date I arrived in basic"... my obligation would not be fullfilled.

The DEP counts against your IRR time, but you HAVE to tell your unit's admin you were in the DEP, otherwise they're probably not going to know. I had to show my admin the DEP certificate in order to get IRR time knocked off my contract. If you don't do that, you will not get credit for your DEP time.

Not many at all as a percentage have been called back, there are TPU reservists that are on a volunteer list as it is.
