Default Tel me about Fort Hood and the surrounding area...

First question.

Do they have any Army aviation units with Chinooks stationed there?

What is Fort Hood like?

What kind of dragstrips are available nearby?

What kind of Dirtbike riding areas?

What are the locals like?

Is there decent shopping and dining nearby?

Feel free to add anything you like.....

By the way, I know its hot there....not worried about that...I'm at Stewart currently...

I take it your Army.

Im thru there a couple times a YR for training (Navy) and the area seems ok.

I mostley go down to San Antonio to visit family when im there. Only 2 hrs.

There is a track about 30 miles or so in Temple i believe......

In addition fort hood sucks. There are three types of soldiers in FT Hood: Those that are returning from deployment, those that are deployed and those that are about to deploy. Between my wife and I we have 4 full year deployments since 2003. All from FT Hood.

Yes, there is aviation units, im about 95% sure there are chinooks, i know i saw a ton of apaches.

fort hood is deployed all the time, traffic is awful

there is a drag strip less than 30 min. away

no clue about riding areas, but i know they exist, some folks in last unit had dirt bikes

locals are decent, most of the women in the immediate area are ******, austin, and UT girls are 45 min. away

Plenty of good restraunts, your surrounded by 3 different towns, again austin is 45 min away.

I loved fort hood, but only because im from fort worth, and that is 2 hours away, 4 day weekends out the ***!
