Slide show of my turbo build
#3
Aww man this vid gives me naughty thoughts about making a custom turbo kit for my ls1 Rx7
I too have no fab experience and the setup you made looks like a friggen bolt on kit. Very good job.
It says it took you 8 months, how much were you working on the car each week. Also it looks like you started off with a few 45/90/180 degree mandrel bends, how many of these bends did you use and did you run into a situation where you needed some odd angles and how did you get them?
Also curious how you started out did you start fab by placing the turbo in the engine bay where you wanted it then mocking up the hot side and then fabricating back form the turbo to the manifolds of vise versa? Let me know deff have been thinking about this but thought it was to much work. I head of people mocking it up with pvc pipe before hand made fabrication much easier

Great video!!! Looks like you did a good job for your first fabrication project. I can tell you used the food coloring trick for your merge pipe, am I right?
I can't wait to see those track videos.

As far as the bends I got better at figuring out what bends I needed as I went along but I did have to make some weird offsets and angles. I spent a lot of time collecting pics if other builds and used them to get ideas for my build.
I started with the passengers side crossover, went to the merge and turbo flange, did the left side crossover, then the down pipe, got the new welder and started from the turbo discharge and went to the TB.
There were many brick walls I ran into and had to overcome throughout the build, as soon as I solved one problem I ran into another. Not trying to discourage you at all but in the end when your done and feel the power you remember why you did it in the first place.
Yeah I used the food coloring trick on the merge & for my turndown that I dont think is in the slide show, works awesome!

I actually found some black food coloring because it was around holloween when I got to that part, the darker the better.
