The song has been around since 1939 I believe. Numerous artists have performed it. Meat Loaf, Ram Jam, and SEVERAL others have done the song. The NAACP boycoted the song for being racist and making black women look bad. Very old.

I've heard if before on the credits of a movie and had to find it. I searched and searched and then finally found it and bought their cd a few years ago. Don't bother buying their cd.lol

Spiderbait doing Black Betty is indeed the best version. Much better than Ram Jam. A local radio station played that cover WAAAAAAAAY back and people went nuts. Shortly after it made its way onto the soundtracks of a couple movies. I know it was in the Dukes of Hazard remake and I think Smokin Aces????
