Default [VR] 503whp / 488wtq 402 LS2 Pontiac TA - Specs, Dyno Results and Walkaround Video

The Pontiac Trans Am during the year of 98-02 had to be one of the most aggressive looking cars on the road. With the ram air intake hood design and wide body, the car was designed to look fast everywhere it went. It also made for a great platform for modding as we have seen over the years. Like with most cars, as years go by, clean examples are harder to find. You can imagine the excitement we faced when this very clean black TA rolled up to our shop. He lives in Kentucky and at a recent road course event at the Bowling Green Corvette plant, he noticed some smoking issues. While we went over the options of what we could do for him and the car, he settled on the fact that he really wanted to get more out of the platform. He drives this car on the street a lot but he also wanted a reliable setup for the track that he could really enjoy.

We decided to go with a new motor for the car that was our 402c.i. based off of a brand new LS2 short block. With forged internals from Callies and Wiseco in place, we mated the Trickflow 220cc heads to the combination to bring even more power out of this naturally aspirated setup. A custom grind VR camshaft also helped with power and the great lope you can hear in the video below. We rounded out the intake portion of the build with a 102mm FAST intake manifold and Nick Williams 102mm TB to really make this car balanced and track ready.

Modifications Installed:

VR 402c.i. Short Block - New GM LS2 Block
- Callies Compstar Crankshaft
- Callies Compstar H-beam Rods
- Wiseco custom pistons
- ARP fasteners
- Cloyes timing set
- Melling oil pump
- Comp 850 lifters
Trickflow 220cc As Cast cylinder heads w/ VR dual valve springs
Comp Trunion Upgrade Kit
VR 42lb/hr Fuel Injectors
VR Custom Camshaft
MGW Short Throw Shifter
ARH 1 ⅞” Longtube Headers w/ Off-Road Y-Pipe
FAST 102mm Intake Manifold
Nick Williams 102mm Throttle Body
FAST Billet Fuel Rail Kit[/LIST]

The result? 503.83whp / 488.01wtq of NA power! This made for a great street/track setup that will be reliable and ready to run.

Here is the walk around and idle video so you can hear how great this TA sounds.
