So I just bought an MGW from a guy here on tech for TOP dollar.

I installed it today and well, take a look for yourself.

Just so you all know, that bolt is LOCKED down.

I am very upset. It moves under the washer but it is locked down!

That sucks man! I know there is a rubber bushing in there, I wonder if its wore out? My new mgw doesnt do that. Maybe I dodged a bullet buying new vs paying top dollar used on here.

Can you take that one bolt out and check the bushing?

I did not expect this to be a problem. I took the bolt out and there doesn't look to be anything I can see? I don't know what I am looking for

If its not what was described, get a re fund and order a new one.

I wonder if that square shaped rubber bushing is wore out, thats what it looks like. Maybe mgw would sell you one If you cant return the shifter?

Rubber bushing looked fine. I added a washer under the washer with the bolt. I tightened it down and it still has a bit of play. I do not understand. I emailed MGW and I am unsure what is going on.

These types of things don't belong in the tech forums but in the Negative Trader Feedback areas, where this thread is now located. So, feel free to share names if you like.

Was really just trying to diagnose the issue. I am just flat out upset over the whole situation.

I contacted MGW and he said the unit must be old and the bushing is worn out and the bolt washer is worn out. Basically I was sold garbage

You might try a different type of post to the tech section to see if you can rebuild it like the Hursts.

I guess I did dodge a bullet since that was the shifter I was trying to buy, offered full asking price and said I'd cover paypal and shipping. he told me he would get the shipping quote and then quit responding to me.

The shifter was disclosed as coming from a car with 160K miles on it. Is the wear on your shifter beyond what you would expect after 160K miles and 15+ years of use?

MGW hasn't been making T56 shifters that long and the shifter itself probably doesn't have near that amount of miles.

I guess it must be low mileage, then.

You are missing a washer on the anodized base. There is a large metal washer and then the white plastic washer on top of it. The white washer is probably worn a bit too.

Go to the hardware store and get new washers, and you can probably shorten the bolt by a few threads as well to give yourself a little more tightening.

I'm certain it isn't, it's missing washers or has incorrect washers, but that comes with the territory when buying used parts.
