Harlan Doesn't Exist

Harlan Doesn't Exist! I ordered a 2-step a month ago and have emailed and called his number many times, but no reply. I mailed him a postal letter just to see if by chance he might still be alive. There is no "Harlan", he never really existed. He was just a figment of drag racers' imaginations.
:bang:

How long have you been around these boards? This isnt really an uncommon occurance.

from what I gather, he is a pretty busy guy but he does come through on orders.

He does exist though. Ive met him and shook his hand.

Re: Harlan Doesn't Exist

If you find it "uncommon" for customers to complain about unresponsive vendors, then you live in a different world than I. For example, I now have to cancel the order through PayPal, and write my credit card company a letter objecting to paying their portion of the charge, who will then charge me interest while they investigate, all because "Harlan" can't run his business like most of us do.

But the good news is at least he's alive. I almost called 911 in his hometown.

BTW, I've been around "these boards" for years, but am spending a lot less time around these boards because of just this type of issue.

I didnt say it was normal or acceptable. I said it was the norm when dealing with him. I dont know what else to tell you.

Re: Harlan Doesn't Exist

There should be portion of this site where buyers can view valid customer complaints against such vendors in these types of situations. If I had known in advance that he would essentially disappear, I would never have placed the order.

Does anyone else make a 2-step?

Problem is harlan really isn't a business...hes an auto enthusiast that custom built a 2-step for LS1s so he could build boost on the starting line. He has a full-time job and a car that sucks alot of his time. He builds these things on the side. No other options are on the market for a 2 step on a LS1. Its a nice piece (I run one myself) and very inexpensive (for a 2-step).

Re: Harlan Doesn't Exist

He represents himself as Harlan Custom Components and his web site makes him look legit. I got suckered.

I can live w/o his 2-step but I hate to get into yet another pissing contest with MBNA over disputed auto parts charges.

Re: Harlan Doesn't Exist

Why dont you let it ride until he gets to it then? At this point, if you cant get one then wait on this one and when you DO get it, youll be that much better off.

Re: Harlan Doesn't Exist

Guido, that's probably good advice, but after a month of silence I have grown impatient.

BTW, seeing that you have a 86 Camaro, you might be interested in a 90 IROC I saw in Denver that runs 8.7s with a 316 cid small block, 16:1 c/r, 5-speed, C25 gas, 3000 lbs, backhalf, 4-link, etc.

Sounds like a nice machine! When you see these thirdgen guys with fast street cars, get them on the boards! the fast guys I see on the boards, rarely spend time on here and they arent actively participating in any of the racing we do. often times, im the only thirdgen on the lot.

I placed an order with Harlan in Dec(?) I think.
I did the same thing as you only I sent him e-mails,PM's,ect. Just to get a response before I sent out the Money order.I STILL haven't heard from him.I found His 2 step locally, and still haven't made a custom clutch switch.I May just
end up selling it because I'll probably be going to an A3.

Re: Harlan Doesn't Exist

I order a 2-step from Harlan about 2 months ago. I just got it about 2 weeks ago. It is a well built unit. Look at it this way. He is the only one that makes it, you already paid for it, and it is probably going to be there very shortly so just wait it out man.
