Default proper way to break in new built motor

whats the proper way to break in a new motor someone told me take it nice and easy dont take it above 4-5000 rpms then someone else told me run it like how you want it to be so go ***** out on it so the pistons and **** get set right. What do you guys think, by the way its new built motor with forged pistons and **** so what are you guys sugggestions

This has been asked several times. As you say, people will swear by both methods. A little search will get you more info.

chevy breaks them in by running the motor at 3000 rpms for a certain amount of time. just read it the other day

I'm fairly certain that all builders (on this site at least) will recommend that you NOT run the motor at a constant speed for an extended time.

Friend wanted me to post

Start the engine and run it at 1500-2000 rpm for about 20 minutes to allow the cam and lifters to behin to wear into each other. Idling should be avoided during this period to prevent cam and lifter failure because during idle less oil is thrown off the connecting rod journals onto the cylinder walls, cam, and other parts that require critical lubrication.

they say to vary rpms. dont cruise at 70 all the time, back off a bit and then speed up.

I put about 30 miles on my car street tuning it and then it was off to the dyno
