Default Goal: 400hp dream: 450 to the wheels

Hey what up fellas I have a 01 z28 vert its also an m6 and has 115k miles. This is pretty much a street car and only been to the track once out of the 4yrs that i've had it. I do have simple little bolt ons like volant cold air intake, SLP loudmouthII, hypertech programmer (which i'll be taking off soon and selling it), and a hurst short shifter. well for the past couple of months its only been garage kept and i take it out only on the weekends. My plan with my car is to get 400hp. What i got in mind is a good head and cam package, headers, put a 75 shot (just to say that i have it), porting out my stock TB, and doing all the supporting mods, and at the end get it tuned. well with all that said is that enought to get me to my goal? money is somewhat of an issue and would like to keep a budget but also i want dependability with these mods.

so my question is, can you advice of what kind of mods i should be looking at to get the dependability that i want along with reaching my goal of 400hp but 450hp would be my dream?

please state any questions/concerns about anything.

your help is very much appreciated

I've somewhat made up a list of mods that i may be getting and that other memeber have put on their cars and have received good results.

224-ISH CUSTOME CAM
SPRINGS
PUSH RODS

OR

AFR 205 HEADS

LONG TUBE HEADERS, ORY WITH AFTERMARKET CATS
LS6 PORTED OIL PUMP
LS2 TIMIN CHAIN
ASP 25% UNDERDRIVE PULLEY

With full boltons and a cam 400rwhp can be done. Add a set of afr heads to the mix and your dream of 450rwhp will happen. Money will be your big factor. Your first list will get you low 400hp and your second list will be mid 450hp. My first setup was full exhaust and a ls6 intake (witch you have) and a tr224/568/112lsa cam and I made 392wrhp/383rwtq.

Both setups you have picked are good but the second one will cost more. You are looking for 400 rear wheel HP they should both make that w/ a M6.

Full bolts on with heads and cam should do the trick. Do a search and you'll find different setups.

one question, why would you want a 75 shot, "just to say you have it"? that sounds kinda rice to me, but honestly you can forget heads and cam, with a 100 shot you'll be anywhere from 430-450. but like the others said, those options will easily get you your goal.

I have an LS6 intake, Ported TB, Yella Terra 1.7 ultra lights, Livernois Stage II LS6 heads, TSO Torquer V2 cam, Comp timing chain and lifters, Cometic .040 MLS gaskets, and ASP 25% UD pulley in the engine department.

Exhaust is QTP race headers 1 3/4" and TSP duals with Bullets dumped. My car laid down 433 RWHP and 400 RWTQ on an 89 degree day with high humidity.

If I had used a 90mm TB and LSX intake and milled the heads down to 60cc chambers my HP would probably be around 445 and TQ 415. Not to mention if it were dynoed on a cool day.

I got the heads barely used for $900, the cam during a TSP sale, T-chain on Ebay, YT roller rockers used and most things on sale. Your goals are easily attainable.

All you have to do to achieve your dream of 450 rwhp is go with a little bigger cam, depending on heads. One of my very good friends made 446 rwhp with AFR 205s and a 228/230 cam. Just step up the cam a bit and you're there.

alright cool...is there a difference with the cam that i proposed to the 228/230 with drivability or just about anything?

reason for the 75 shot is to.....well i've never yet been in a car with a n2o and i just want to know what it feels like but the nitrous is still towards the end of my list its not even in my plans. know what i mean?

It wouldn't be too different. It sacrifice a little bit more power down low, but will make more higher in the RPM band. Driveability difference would be negligible.

My car has 118,000 miles on it. Longtubes, trual duals, 90mm intaked and 90mm throttle body, slp lid, with ms4 cam. Spec 3 clutch and aluminum flywheel. I put down 420rwhp. You should easily hit 400rwhp. I am shooting for 450rwhp myself. I just need to find a good set of heads.

bolt on with heads and cam will easily reach the 400 mark.

You pretty much have the full bolton part covered in your list. AFR heads will cost you 500-1000$ more than a new set of ls6 ported heads. AFR's are one of the best heads in the business but if your on a budget check out the prc heads the texas speed sells.http://www.texas-speed.com/shop/cate...MID=1&catid=40

i went on the site and found these PRC 220cc 5.3L Stage 2.5 CNC Ported Heads. I've been told by people that these should get me to my goals, what do you think?

Cost is all up to you the 5.3l heads are cheaper and make great power the ls6 style are more $$ and make alittle more power. So the choice is up to you on how much to spend either way you'll have or be very close to the 450rwhp mark.

ok ok...then i guess what i'll do is get the one in between...I'll most likely go with the ported ls6 heads so it can keep that stock sleeper look. I notice that with the AFR their logo is right in front and that will give me away..lol..But besides that i've been hearing that the ported ls6 and the AFR 205 heads are only 10-20 hp difference. And the ported ls6 are a little cheaper than the AFR...

You could get a bigger cam no problem. 230+/230+ range, somewhere in there.

If you got a good tuner in your area, then i'd get a bigger cam, it's all in the tune, and your driveability will not suffer at all. Then get the heads, etc. You'll be over 450+ no problem.
