Default Unknown knocking that never seems to go away!

Hey guys, I just bought my 2002 Camaro SS 35th about 15k miles ago, currently has 36k on it. From the start the car has had a knocking in the engine, not a ticking but a knocking . With it being winter the knock is much more noticable. Oil is changed every 7k miles or so with full synthetic. When it warms up the knocking quiets down but never really goes away. Can anybody help me understand why this is and what could I be looking at to fix it ? I really appreciate your help!

you need to change your oil more often then 7k. What you are hearing is piston slap. It happens with these cars.

7k oil changes????? That very well could be part of the problem. I always do mine at ~3k, with no real knocking with 112k on the odo. That knocking you could have may very well be piston slap too... what viscocity oil are you running?

Yeah man, don't go over 5,000 miles without doing an oil change, and thats when using synthetic. Besides that, 7,000 mile oil changes are not the reason for the knock. The type of oil and the viscosity could contribute.

Yeah like they said you should change your oil more often, but mine gets changed every 3,000 and I have a slight knock on mine, sometimes its louder but I've heard that it isn't that out of the normal for our cars to do that. I think I'm going to switch over to Royal Purple after I seafoam the car in the spring and we'll see if that doesn't fix the problem. Btw at the Indy event I heard a couple cars with the same sound mine has and one of them was a Berger SS so take that for what its worth.

Piston slap will usually go away when a car is up to operating temp but I passed on 35th anniversary cause of knock and know the guy who bought it and the thing still runs like a raped ape two years later and is a DD. Had about 60K when I looked at it and no idea how much now... I just knew it was rod knock.....but noooooo.....
