Default U-joints without shaft removal?

Can you do the U-joints with out removing the driveshaft?
or is it better to remove it?

I just did a trans flush, so really don't wanna dump it all out again.

I have always removed the driveshaft.....don't worry about your trans flush, only a little fluid is going to come out of the tailshaft when you remove the DS.

I guess it's possible to do it that way, though it's much easier to just remove the driveshaft. Are the U-joints original? If so get a torch ready because you'll have to burn the the plastic out of the yolk in order to get the bearing caps off.

My advice is to remove the driveshaft and bring it to a shop and have them replaced, especially if it's aluminum.

Oh, so I can remove the shaft and not have the entire thing empty of trans fluid?
I was told that, and have never removed one so i had to ask.

some fluid will come out but not much. If anything have the rear or the car sit a little higher to help or stuff a rag in the end of the trans to make fluid some coming out.

thats true and it would seem impossible to replace them with the shaft still on the car.

If you havn't ever removed a driveshaft, I would be really carefull doing the universal joints yourself. You can make a big mess out of them if you dont know what your doing. Dont even mess with trying to do them with the driveshaft still in the car.

So I got the Drive shaft out pretty easly. i got it up on a vice, with a manual out.
does anyone know which ones have to e pressed out? I can't find any snap rings on these... and yeah I already broke one press trying to press them in.

The tail end looks like it's pressed, the front looks the same. can anyone confirm this for me?

Is it better to go give this to a shop and have them do it, while it's out of the car.
I just hate paying people money for somthing I should be able to do.

I like to use a BFH. Get 2 sockets. One that will fit OVER the trunion cap but still hold up the yoke.

And use a smaller socket just big enough to cover the cap and beat the *** outta it.
