Default clicking sound when i switch gears?

so im still pretty new at driving a stick, but i have noticed that when i release the clutch and give it some gas, i hear a clicking sound coming from the engine. im assuming maybe its because im releasing the clutch too quick and not giving it enough gas. is this the case? if it is, am i putting more wear on my clutch, or putting too much stress on any part of the car, like transmission or drive train?

Does it do it in neutral while sitting in place? Sounds to me like either a lifter is wore out, or you have an exhaust leak somewhere. Could be a bent pushrod as well. Need more specifics on where the sound is and when it happens.

No, its only when i switch gears. Like as soon as the clutch comes in contact.

Like, im in first gear, im ready to switch to second so i press the clutch all the way down, put it in second, start to release off the gas, and the second the clutch comes in contact, it clicks. I think its because im letting off the clutch too quick, but im not sure.

Does it do it at all RPMS? Or just in the lower ranges?

A/C Condensor engaging/disengaging is my guess... you running defrost or A/C at the time this happens? I hear it all the time if that is the case.

I guess lower rpms. Basically if im switching from first to second, and i just release the clutch into second and dont give it any gas, as soon as the clutch engages, it clicks from the engine. dont know if i should be worried if im hurting anything or not.

Sounds to me like you're just bogging the engine. You need to give it some gas when you shift. It won't hurt anything by bogging it, it just sounds bad.

Yea it sounds like it's bogging/lugging from the way you describe.

Have you looked into it perhaps being a worn trans mount or rear end play?

Grab the driveshaft with the car out of gear and rotate it forward and back to see if you can replicate the noise

Does it do it for several seconds after shifting into the higher gear, like until your RPMs increase and you stop bogging or lugging?

And the driveshaft thing, well its a piece of cylindrical metal probably aluminum about 3 inches in diameter and 3-4 feet long that connects your transmission to your rear differential and will look something like this: http://images.google.com/images?hl=e...=Search+images You should be able to move it by hand when out of gear and parking brake off but I doubt that is your problem. Good luck.

I don't think hes bogging it... my LT1 does i all the time when i shift between 1500 and 2000 rpms... if its what I think then then the noise is kinda subtle and lasts like 3 sec and you have to listen for it to hear it. its hard to describe. It did that when I bought it and I put a new clutch and hydrualics and it still does it at low rpms...when I shift at 3500 ish it doesnt do it. Im not sure what it is but I don't think it hurts anything.

no, it just clicks once. it almost sounds like the clutch is hitting the gear or whatever too hard. it only clicks once if i ease off the clutch too quick and and not giving it enough gas. im assuming its just the clutch hitting the gear too hard?

There is slack in your drivetrain. As soon as you let the clutch out without giving it much gas, the slack will suddenly be taken up and will make a clunking sort of noise. It's probably normal. Practice giving it a little more gas when you're releasing the clutch.

That's what I'm thinking.

Thanks guys. I'm still practicing on getting all the gear changes as smooth as possible; occasionally it happens but most of the time its good. Thanks again guys.
