Smog legal camshaft...California
does anyone know of a decent smog legal cam for a daily driver, 2000 ls1. i've heard of one that sounds good and is somewhat mild. It's 220/220 114 lsa, not sure what the lift is. Any opinions if i'm pushing my luck with this grind for smog issues?

Depends on what all else you have going on. Im running a 224/228 114+2 and it dosent pass, almost but not quite
If your worried about smog then dont mod, if you want to mod find someone to pay like the rest of us.

Turbo setups seem to run pretty clean. STS setups here run cleaner than stock cars.
Its not going to be hard to make a setup that passes, but it will feel half assed. That's how I started. If its really a big deal just hold off on it and you'll never half to worry about passing. Stick with the basic bolt-ons and shorties.
If you must, a hotcam would probably pass everywhere.

It only has a couple of mods to speak of, one is the ls6 intake, and a straightpipe cutout. So, it's still pretty much stock. I've been poking around other threads and it seems the 220/224 114 lsa is pushing it. The computer doesn't like the overlap. So, i'll check on the comp cams. It sounds pretty safe for now. Calif gov hates horsepower

Is it a 2000 vette or a 2000 f-body. If it is an f-body and you had to remove the egr then it is already illegal. people pass with the 224/224 114 lsa. We have some good tuners here in california, then again your probably looking at keeping the stock exhaust manifolds so a different cam to maximize the potential of the manifolds "might" be a better option.
No results but someone is trying out this cam on another site

it's a 2000 SS, and you're right about the stock exhaust, i would rather not get into more than just a decent all around cam and a good tune. I've already got a money pit in the garage that is my serious toy. I'm mostly looking to get a little more out of the stock engine without having to worry about smog issues. The egr is still in the same place as factory, just had to cut the tube a little for the ls6 intake and the cutout is just before the muffler. it has passed smog as it sits so far.

Honestly I wish I had saved all the money I spent on this car and bought an old Impala or vega and built a bad *** SBC for it. Wouldn't have to worry about smog at all.
Hey anyone know what year they dont require smog anymore? Wasn't it like any car over 25years old?

I cant believe no one has said a LS6 cam. I do not know how strict CA is on smog laws but I've heard they are tough. The LS6 cam specs are 204/218 .551/.547 117.5 lsa. A GM Hotcam would also work well 219/228 .525/.525 112 lsa. One more cam to think about would be the TR224 but that could be pushing it specs are TR 224 .561/.561 114+4 lsa.

Hey my brother runs comps 224/230 .581/.588 114LSA with a set of hand ported LS6 heads, LS6 intake plus long tubes and highflow cats on his 2000 m6. He kept all of his emission stuff and had it tuned by Shawn Ellis of Socal Tuning. His car made 405rwhp and 395 lb/ft torque and has no trouble passing smog. You should be able to get away with passing if you run a duration less than 230. Anything over that and you wont pass the sniffer.
