Default How long will an LS1 last?

I was wondering how long you can expect to run an LS1 engine with basic maintenance?

What is the weak point of the engine?

If a car is stock and has been taken care of should you expect any problems even with a higher mileage car?

I've heard stories of random LS1's blowing, guy buys what he thinks to be a solid car then boom... I don't want to be that guy.

If they are well taken care of you can get 200k+

Early LS1's had an issue with the oil pump, thats why some went boom.

There is no way to answer this question. Anything can happen. Sometimes stuff just lets go for no good reason. You are asking for a prediction of the future. You can EXPECT 200k, you might get 75, who knows?

No way to really awnser a question like this. i guess on AVERAGE, the ls1 will last somewhere from 150k-200k. Thats if its taken care like it should be.

It really depends on how well it's been taken care of & how hard
it has been driven. Anywhere between 100K-250K miles.

IMO, your best bet is to try to find a near stock car, that looks
like it's been well maintained.

I have an uncle who works for GM and he says in stock form with recomended maintenance they are designed for 300k+. Most durable SBC ever built he says...197k on my 99 5.3 here running like the day I bought it in 01...

Disclaimer...if you dog your mess hard everyday and don't follow prescribed maintenance don't expect this. I rag my modded TA pretty hard at times so I doubt I will see this longevity. A little bit of shaving on the drain plug which I have NEVER seen on the truck....

Too many variables to say for sure. Maybe 300k. Maybe only 100k if it has been beat on heavily.

I feel the same way, that any thing can happen. My car has 215,000 on it, but I take care of it.

Haha 85k of wot pretty much... 1 motor, 2 trannys, 3 clutches, 7 10-bolts, 8 sets of rear tires and 4 sets of breaks... Thats just off the top of my head, there are many other things i have replaced more than once. She wasn't a dd tho, just a toy. My 92 chevy pickup went 275k before it went boom.

does running synthetic oils drastically help it last longer? or improve the chances atleast?
