Default what to get next????

ok i got a 99 z28 ls1 with the 6 speed with 70,000 miles on her. I want more power. I got a cam (comp cam, xtreme energy in it. A 160'thermostat. im putting a set of pacesetter headers on it with no egr and a cutout after the y pipe (its a off road Y pipe). it has a borla cat back exhaust on it that will stay. I am looking for a ls6 intake for it and a slp lid but the lid has 98-99 then 00-02 so idk what one i need to get??? what else should i get for it??????

ported polished throttle body. underdrive pulley.... if u got money to burn - electric water pump that should cover the bolt ons. could put some 4.10 gears in.

Suspension first my friend... I've learned that the hard way, its not so bad with an a4 but since you opted for the six speed you also opted to break easy... I would decide what gears you want to go with and do a built rear to start things off... Then supporting goodies... LCA's, SFC's, Body mount adjustable torque arm w/ driveshaft saftey loop, and steel drive shaft. Then if you want to throw more power at it, do an under drive, set of heads, all your free mods, and a good tune... If you are still not happy, buy some dope for it! Your cutout will not be good for any power most likely. I know a few guys, including myself, that have actually lost power with the cutout open.

If you throwing a cam in it I would suggest getting some better flowing heads to take advantage of the cam better.

Yes I'm with the guy above, get some better heads, port and polished throttle body and throttle body bypass. An also the clutch cause with cam and all the other work the stock clutch don't like those.

My goals are to run in the 10's and maybe do a wheelie. Beat my 77 vette that my dad built the engine for. the 77 has a 383 stroker. he says its putting out just under 600hp but he has not had it dyno. I had mine done and he said it was only 294 rwhp with the cam in it.

Factory headers, factory lid, ls1 intake? All of those should be addressed before a cam swap. To run 10's your going to need alot more power than you have right now. Do full suspension, head/cam, and some tires if thats what your going for. Or just buy a spray kit and throw a 150 shot at it after bolt ons/cam/basic mods.

b.t.w that is a low dyno number if you already have a cam in it especially if your an M6. Most dyno over 300 stock.

Having a cam in your car with all the supporting goodies still being stock probably made you loose power...

So what does he run??? That is key. I started out in Gen I stuff so I don't even want to get started but 600hp is unlikely (but not impossible with enough $$). I would bet though a good H/C/I bolton combo for you would get him easily. If he runs pump gas and a hydraulic cam on that car it is mild. Also ask him what heads he runs. If they are OEM they are not conducive to big HP like that even when ported....

77 vettes were low compression smog motors and made like 180fwhp stock and the L82 like 220 IIRC. So get all the particulars and report back...

Not a bad build for a street 383 but he would need a big shot of nitrous to get anywhere near 600 hp with this engine.
