Ok, so I am doing the usual oil pressure test on a 2001 LS1 out of a camaro SS. I have come to find otu the truth of the engine, it has sat for nearly 2 years before I managed to get it into my 944.
It smokes at idle and smoke alot more when I left off of the gas. So I know it has some ring issues, I am working on that part too.
My main concern with this post is oil pressure. I know there are two different types of pump setups, high volume or high pressure. I am not sure which run is running in my engine.
I did the manual test yesterday and at cold start up it took a fex seconds before the pressure would build but then it jumped to 45psi. After warming up it dropped to around 25 psi. Slightly revving the engine at the throttle body jumped it to 50psi and holding at that rpm, it slowly decreased alittle.
What is the recommended psi to be running at idle after warming up?

I did a manual run on mine which has a Melling standard replacement pump on it. The results were: 50 cold idle, 40 warm, 32 hot. 2K about 50psi, 3K about 60psi, and 5K about 70psi. Didnt check 4k, and it was a steady rise in pressure as the rpms went up.
