Default What do you think about this?

Ok I am wanting to get my boyfriend some gears.... we talked about it and he is unsure of what he wants so I will ask you guys what you think.....

I want to get him some 4.10s or 3.73s..... he only has 3.23s right now...

the main mods on the car are:

new shortblock
TR230
hooker LTs
he is looking for a PT4400 right now
Patriot Stage II heads

he also runs on ET Streets.....what do you think about 4.10s?

I'm thinking that if I had a girlfriend that wanted to get me some gears, she'd already be my wife!
Wait, that wasn't the question.......
I'd say it would depend on the type of use he'd be setting the car up for. Is it going to be stricktly for the track or daily driver with some track time to stay happy?
I think 373's are top's for daily driver with some track time. 410's would be crappy driving on the highway. Am I wrong in saying this guys??
Maybe a happy medium with some 390's would be good??

Would the 3.90's work on the F-bod? I thought those were only C5 gears

Personally I have a bigger cam, PT4600, and 4.10's and I daily drive it. I like it and it doesn't give me any problems. So take that for what it's worth

I thought gears were gears? Doesnt the Vette have the same rear end as the Fbody?

I wouldn't go any higher than 3.73 personally. 4.10s are gonna be a little too much on a A4 car.

Yea def. go no higher than 3.73s you may wanna check out the 3.42s they are great for an A4 also. No fbod and vet. differentials are different and 3.90s want work.

A change from 3.23s to 3.42s would be hardly noticable. NOT worth the effort or expense. 4.10s are borderline with an A4 both in daily driving and in making it through the 1/4 mile below redline unless tall tires are used.

3.73s would be a descent upgrade over 3.23s and would be ok for daily driving.

In my LS1s I've had 2.73, 3.23, 3.42, 3.73, 3.90, and 4.10s. My favorite for a daily driven street car? 3.23s but I wouldn't suggest them for a TP4400 as they would make that loose converter seem even looser. For a weekend warrior I'd go with 3.73s. For a track only car I'd go with 4.10s.

If we're talking about staying with the stock rearend I certainly wouldn't go above 3.73s. The pinion gets weeker and weeker the numerically higher you go.

Whatever gear you go with, don't expect sizable gains in performance over the 3.23s since you will have a TP4400 which will do the majority of the work for you. Hard hitting converters with high shift extensions REALLY make the gains from optimum gearing MUCH smaller.

Oh, and to reiterate what others have said, there are no 3.90s available for the stock rearend so far as I know.

F-body and 'Vette rearends are TOTALLY different!

Maybe someone should look into some company making some 3:90's for us. I'd probably buy a set.
