Should I get a high-flow cat?
I'm not sure if my cats are bad, but my car has 146K miles on it. How long do the Magnaflow high-flow cats last? Should I get a couple of them or would it be a waste of money?

What makes you think your cats are bad? Any symptoms or codes? Mileage alone doesn't mean they are bad.
Also, do you have a sniff test to pass? If not I'd probably just delete rather than replace.

They dont need replaced just because of mileage, like stated above. If they are bad and they are making your check engine light come on, then they need to be replaced. Either keep driving on them or delete them completely

Now, the cats are bad. Haha.
I'll probably go with this cat.

I put one of those on my old '95 Z28. I'm not sure how different the clearances are between the two.

I took the cats off on my 99 WS6 about 8 years ago and I also live in Houston. But I wanted it to be that way, less restriction = more power, not to mention it is one less thing to go wrong and I liked the sound. Just better off to be honest. (yes we have to get an inspection yearly, doesn't mean you cant pass )

You can tune out the rear 02s and pass if they dont do a visual. The 02 monitors will just come up "not supported". My wifes T/A passes with an ORY every time. Not thats its legal by any means, but we went with long tubes and I got an ORY for almost free so I couldn't pass it up.

Is this stock cat 2.25" or 2.5"? The vehicle search lists 2.25" cats.

You asking if it would make sense to get a 2.5" or 3" catalytic converter? If so, I personally don't think it would be worth it, it would probably fit and everything, but I would just go ahead and get the direct fit cat that's made for the stock application.

Ah ok, I gotcha. The 2.5" universal I'm thinking would work pretty good then, I don't see why it would create any issues if it bolts on like it's supposed to.
Also, how strict is emissions testing in Houston? I had the same problem with my Camaro this past summer and I just took my cats off completely. My car is modded very similar to yours, I run a Magnaflow Catback and stock manifolds. Car sounds quite good with the O/R Y I have to say. Just throwing that out there.

For the OBDII cars, they just hook up to the computer. It's not likely that a cop would look under the car to see if I have cats, but I'm okay with getting new ones so I don't worry about it. Haha.
