Quick question, i have heard from someone that a cars computer will correct itself or something like that making a cold air intake useless...is this true? Somethin' bout it will become useless unless you do a tune or something. I didn't really trust the source and i wanted to ask the experts. And on a side note...I was considering a volant dual filter (is that what they call it? lol) since i thought maybe with the trans ams "nostrils" will more efficiently breath. Now its NOT a ram air hood. So will this intake be less efficient compared to a T/A equipped with a ram air hood? Just curious as to the ventilation factors. Thank you in advance for your assistance. And sorry if i missed an obvious answer.

Any time you can put more air in a motor, it should make more power. Depending on the car you might have to tune it to maximize the gains but most CAI will pick up some power without being tuned. They are a good idea for anyone starting to mod just about any vehicle. Go for it!

The computer will correct itself by adding more fuel, therefore more HP. A lid may not be much but it will add some HP. I would put on an aftermarket lid (SLP or similar) with a K&N filter. You do not need a tune until you start doing bigger things like cam, heads, etc. Like my car is still untuned, and i've done lid, headers, ory, cat-back. Though im sure I could pick up more HP if I got a tune.

Is there any real difference in the filters from a cheap one to a big brand like k&n? i was thinking volant since its got 2 filters and they point toward the "nostrils" in the hood. And volant seems to have a heat shield or w/e. Not sure i seen a k&n with one. Forgive me for being a newb.

The heat shield is there to close off the filter's from the heat from the engine that's why the shield is there. In the end if you have a RAM T/A it's still going to be a ram air T/A. No matter what you do to the intake. Either CAI should be okay regardless and all of them will do what they supposed to do but looking at the design of them I would think that the volant would be better then the K&N air filter one cause the volant is closed in. Or you could look at getting the FTRA super sucker or the SLP CAI with a K&N air filter with a lid also and call it a day. It's just really up to you, it's a lot of ways you can go with this.

Idk if there is a real difference in terms of HP, but you can clean and re-use the K&N filter unlike the cheap ones you gotte replace.

A lid is a lid, so pick whatever you want to pay for.
