Which headers to go with?

I have an 02 WS6. I want to get some new headers and an exhaust for the car. I already have the exhaust picked out, but I'm not sure what headers to go with as far as brands or long tube or shortys. Anyone have any suggestions?

The car is stock. Nothing has been done to it yet.

Thanks.

If you want to make power, go longtubes.

From which brand... they're all longtubes. only difference is fitment (some fit better than others) and different materials (stainless, ceramic coated, non-coated)

It all depends how much you want to spend. Got headers ranging from like $250-$700? Maybe even more expensive?

Get LT's if you want it to be louder and make more power. Stainless will last forever.

Kooks are the best
American Racing Headers are next in line
(both stainless, but expensive)

Hookers and PaceSetters are good bang for your buck headers. The PaceSetters being your best bang for the buck.

Cheap LT's are LPP's, but they fit like shit.

Then you have the option of going off road y-pipe or catted y-pipe.

What catback have you decided on?

Like said above, most LT's will gain roughly the same hp.

If you like it loud, go true duals dumped. If you want it a bit quiter, go with a custom ORY with some type of merge (improves flow and reduces rasp), and a cutout (electric or manual).

Thanks for the info. The cat back I've.decided to go with is a stainless steel quad tip borla that I found online. I've heard it on another TA before and it sounded good.

Got any other ideas on things to do to the car for some quick gains in HP? I'm not looking to spend a lot of money on a turbo or supercharger yet.

Don't waste your money on shorties, IMO. At the point you are spending the money, buy a longtube and get the most power you can get out of it. Pricing is pretty much the same between them using the same materials and labor isn't that different either. If you want, let us know what kind of budget you are on and we can get you setup with something to get the most power for your dollar. We have several options in both mild steel and stainless headers.

Being you'll have exhaust, do lid/ls6 intake/tune....with the tune being important after you do exhaust. With just boltons, you can just get a mailorder tune from someone like Frost, it's less expensive than a dyno tune and is all you really need with boltons.

RobSilverTA 04-06-2010 10:00 AM

What kind of HP gain can one expect from a set of long tube headers?

99FormulaM6r 04-06-2010 10:06 AM

Full exhaust and a tune usually can get you around 30 rwhp or so

He has an 02, already has ls6 intake.

Heres a thread that came up when I searched for a bolt ons list... seems like it has the biggest stuff on there:

That is debatable but they are the the two best for sure. ARH prolly has a better fitting Y and KOOKS changed their design to a HVMC simaliar to ARH after the ARH came out....

Oh..... LT's are a no brainer.....

hehe, my mistake. Apparently I didn't read his post the whole way through! Forget the LS6 intake then, but what is your transmission....auto or manual? I hear that a stall really wakes the auto's up, and a new shifter can really make the manual more fun!

RobSilverTA 04-07-2010 09:27 AM

I've got the six speed manual in it. A new shifter huh? I'll look into that. Thanks for the bolt ons list. There's a lot of stuff on that list. It gives me some ideas of what to do.
