Default lt1 vet but ls1 newbie question

Ok, i have a 93 6 speed but yesterday i found a sweet looking 2000 automatic. The car is beautiful and sounds great! The price is REALLY good. The problem is, when it is running, if i turn the throttle by hand i can here a noise that actually sounds like a rod or main bearing noise. But, the sound is coming from all the way up top. It seems like it is coming from the plastic intake. I dont know if i could here a rod or main that good up top or maybe a cam bearing. The car looks very well taken care of and has 83,000 miles on it. It idles perfect, drives perfect and takes fuel perfect. I didnt think to look at the oil gauge but wish i had. Has anyone else had this problem or heard this noise? Its not really loud but it does sound like a bearing squealing. Any ideas? Thanks.

I've never heard a rod or main bearing noise but I do know that if the car isn't stock, it will usually have a different valvetrain noise than a stock internal car.

Do u have a mechanic friend who u can look at it or borrow a engine stethascope, and pin point the location of the noise? that would be my first suggestion..have others but start with that..

Ok, I went back yesterday to check out what oil pressure it had and to see what rpo codes it had so i could look up the options. The oil pressure was a bit over 40 psi at idle and goes up when you give it throttle. Where are the rpo codes on these cars? My 93 was in the glove box but I couldnt find them on the 2000.

Yes, it still had the noise but when it warmed up, it quit. The owner told me it was a belt, which I believe that is what he thinks. But, it is coming from the back of the engine. The guy only has about 6 cars on his lot and he is a really good guy and said he will stand behind his vehicles but I dont think he is much of a mechanic. I forgot to take a stethascope. I work 2 hours from home and the car is about half way there. The car used to be blue and has been painted black so, it may have been in an accident but it looks very straight and handles good and runs like a raped ape. Oh, and also I would like to add that it does not have headers and looks all stock. It has 83,000 miles on it so it really shouldnt have any bearings going bad. At least i wouldnt think. Its not very loud squeak but is constant.

+1, that's the first thing I thought of when I read the OP's post. Look up LS1 piston slap on youtube, there are a couple videos on there of what it can sound like. That's probably all it is.

I looked up piston slap on you tube. It doesnt sound anything like that. It sounds like a whistling or squealing sound. I have decided against getting the car. I want to find one that is definately 100% tight. Thanks guys.

whistleing or squeeling? I thought the AIR or EGR making those noises...but they are supposed to, so it wouldn't be a problem at all. And the AIR and EGR are right up around the Intake Manifold...I had a slight whistling with mine until i took of my egr and air when i installed headers
