Default ls-1 block and year identification????

Hi guys. Im new at this thread aswell as general knowledge with the ls1 motor. My question to all the ls1 guru is how do you tell the difference between 98 to 99 ls1? I just recently bought a ls1 pullout from a camaro. It came complete with the t-56,computer and wiring harness. My problem is that I can't recall if the motor is out of a 98 or a 99. Im going to send my computer out for reprograming as well as wiring diet for a swap that im doing. Is there any casting # on the block or heads to tell which year it came from? I appreciate any input you may have on this and many thanks to this forum. Ariel

i bought an LS1 engine out of a 99 corvette to put in my 98 camaro which had a blown motor. we went to put the stock valve covers from the 98 on the 99 LS1 block and besides the fact of them not fitting on my aftermarket roller rockers the bolt pattern was different on the valve covers than on the 98 but other than that everything bolted up just fine..you may have to have your PCM checked out though because of the change.. (not 100% sure though) and there should be a Bar code sticker on the block with a vin number if i'm not mistaken (there was one on mine)

It will have 98 or 99 on the block near the casting #'s. The one that came out of my 98 was a 97 block....

its clearly stamped on the block as 98 or 99. It'll be on a raised boss.
