Question Ws6 ticking? Need Help.

So I just bought a 01 trans am ws6 with 40k miles on it about two months ago. Long story short I bought it from a dealer, they changed the oil. The oil light came on after a month and I was told they probably forgot to reset the light. I'm new to Ls1's so I thought it was fine . I drove it for another month then I started noticing this tick. So I changed the oil to mobil 1 increased performance and the tick stayed. I think its because of the shitty oil they put in it that messed up one of the lifters and me not changing it when I should of. Please watch the video and tell me what you think? I'm new to these cars so I need help! This is my DD right now but I'm getting another in about a week for winter.

That sounds kind of like a lifter tick to me. You might check and make sure its not just an exhaust leak because they can sound somewhat similar. Since its on video and not in person I can't be sure, but I would put my money on the lifter being an issue.

Isn't this the common "LS1 engine tick" sound?

My 01 Z28 does the same ticking noise...

Well the lifters themselves can be found for a decent price, its the labor that bites you if you aren't fixing it yourself. You have to pull the heads to get to the lifters in these motors. You would also want to take a look at your cam and make sure it isn't damaged. If the tick has been around for a while its possible the cam got scratched and would need to be replaced.

LS1s do have a common "sewing machine" noise to them, but I heard a fairly pronounced tick in there. Again I could be wrong since its in a video but thats just what I thought I heard.

is it a m6? has it been down shifted at a high speed? check and make sure the push rods are perfectly straight.you could replace the exhaust gaskets your self.

Well when it warms up it kind of comes and goes and this video is made from a cold start. Also when i first got the car it didn't make the noise at all.

If it's there at warm up only, then it's just piston slap (very common in these cars)

When it starts, does it continue or does it go away after a couple of seconds?

Don't run the car till the oil temp is up to operating temp. Change the oil on a regular basis. My 99 with 142,xxx miles does it too. It did it when I got it in 02 too. Hard to tell what exactly the sound is in a video and not in person.

my car does the same thing... At cold start its not noticeable in the first 15- 30 seconds of run time... then as rpms drop down to around 700 that noise starts. once it warms up the noise goes away. Car only has 14,000 mi. I had it looked at and was told its common. The 5.3 in my silverado does the same deal. 160k on it with no problems... runs strong!

I guess I live with it lol I'll prolly have it checked out at my work, since I work for a dealership I can get it looked at for low price. Thanks for all the advice guys I really appreciate it, I was assuming the worst.

Just another person chiming in to say that it's normal. After the oil gets warmed up and moved around the noises settle down. I do admit it's unnerving, though...
