Default My WTF MPG!!!

ive never had this bad of gas mileage... i did exactly what you should to calculate the mpg and came up with 17?!? i did 70% highway (~65-70mph) and 30% city. what the hell is happening. none of my dash lights are coming on telling me something is wrong. the car just hit 134k miles. ive gotten 26mpg's straight highway going 75-80 before

You probably just need a minor tune up. Clean the MAF, fuel filter, plugs and wires(depending on mileage of current ones), O2 sensors can also cost mpg's even if they're not tripping the SES light.

Yeah look at the easy stuff first. Start with the MAF. A bad tank of gas can greatly affect MPG too. Try another station next tank....

How much are you getting per tank?

You don't count.

I get around 17-18 in town and will get 26mpg going to Pensacola, Florida with the girlfriend and all of our **** in the car. I'm 100% stock except for a BFH cat delete and I have the factory 3.23 gears.

I did do a small tune-up (plugs and filter) in the Spring. I also did the crankcase / vacuum line / gas tank seafoam treatment at work one day around that time and will occasionally dump a bottle of seafoam in (1oz per gallon of gas) when I fill it up.

I don't know if this helps or not, but there you have it.

That's about on par with mine. Maybe mine needs a tune up too.

Did you just spray your MAF before this issue arose? Maybe you damaged it or something? The car run good/smooth still? When stuff like this happens, its best to start at the last thing you did and work your way back (especially if it was fine before). Normally you'll figure it out pretty easily that way.

If you drive the highway these things can get up to 26mpg through an a4. Which I am currently getting.

Do a full tuneup

On an absolutely full tank, run to E (mine will go a little past E), I got like 350 miles...so I even had maybe 20-30 miles left in it. I do a lot of highway driving, but I have gears too. I also beat on it a fair amount. When I bought the car and drove it home (bone stock with 3.42s at the time) I got 30mpg on the way home, all highway with some romping on it and a race or 2 with a cobra.

Check tire pressure.

A low tire/tires will kill MPG's like no other.

i filled it up until the pump stopped, i didnt add anymore to get it to become like an even dollar, ran it out, then did the same thing and took my mileage and divided it by the amount of gas for the second fill up
