Default From a Caprice to a Camaro....

I'm pretty set on wanting to get an LS1 Camaro.....Right now I drive a 1996 9c1 Caprice with the LT1, and filling that 23 gallon tank is hurting when it doesn't last very long. Would I get better or worse mileage if I go with the Camaro? Hopefully someone has experience owning both a Camaro and a Caprice/Impala SS here?? I know some might say get a corolla if gas is such an issue, but I just don't want to end up with something that gets worse MPG than my caprice. Thanks for reading

I had a '95 Caprice SW with 9C1 susp (put on by me) and LT1 power. Man, I loved that car -what a great long distance cruiser! Many road trips to the East coast (1000mi each way) that I averaged over 25mpg doing 70 plus up hill etc. Considering the size weight and load I was carrying, not to mention I was really flogging it at times, it was excellent gas milage- wise! Around town, different story as you know! My 02 Camaro is not too much better around town, really. Factor in premium fuel and... I know yor pain! My 02 got over 29mpg driven easily (50-60mph) in 6th as much as possible on back roads. Cosidering the performance available it is not too bad really! What can I say, I've come to the same conclusion on both vehicles! I Don't think buying a Camaro will save you gas money, even driven with economy in mind. My 02 is not a dd btw.

Depends on how you drive it and what is done to it. The lighter Camaro I would think should get better mileage. I would assume the LS motor would be more efficent as well with a better ECU. I don't know that it will save enough to justify buying another car but if you are just looking for a reason then heck yeah it will get better mileage! haha...

Thanks, it doesn't help that my caprice has 3:73's either...LOL I know both are great cars...It's literally been the most difficult decision in my car owning experience (22 had 9 cars already)weather to let go of my Caprice I keep saying it's a done deal but then I hold back at the last minute LOL At the same time I don't want to deal with the opti, just want more power, newer vehicle, something I can fit in my garage and T-tops

The Camaro certainly won't get worse gas mileage. That seemed to be your main concern. Have fun shopping and post up when you find one.

thanks everyone....It might be a while before I find one that fits my criteria. I was just surprised to find out insurance wouldn't be much more than what I'm paying now when I got quoted for a Z28 LOL

I've had 2 Caprices and an Impala SS before my 2 F bodys and they were all just about same in the mpg category with mixed driving. I miss the comfort factor of a B Body though, especially my Impala SS.
