Default High Idle on startup (3000 rpms)

Hey guys ive had my new 99 trans am for about a month and a half now and since the first day ive had it it idles about 3k rpms and drops after about 10 seconds...now it doesnt happen all of the time just maybe 3 times a week but it still freaks me out b/c i do have an oil leak*maybe its a vacuum line and thats why it idles that way* but it only does that at idle...
there is also oil leaking from somewhere and it gets on the oil filter, plug but mostly just on the left side*drivers*
i cleaned the iac but it did nothing to help, should i just buy a new one?
thanks

Nothing, the car has 89k miles and is all stock, I think if it was in the tune it would do it 100% of the time...

Vaccume Leak, im willing to wager that one of the lines in the back are disconnected. I took my FAST 90/90 set up off and went back to a LS6 and I had a major issue with a fuel line which long story of the short made me rush to throw it back together in 15 minutes and it had the same thing.

But being early January and I ran the car back to it's storgage unit, I did not look at it for about 5 months and only noticed when driving that I had no selector for vents or really any HVAC.

Well, knowing that I messed with something. I tore it back off to find I pinched the hard line and the 3 ended vaccume fitting was not even on. So I had to cut the damaged line, replaced with a rubber and reinstall the intake.

Instand fix, HVAC works and all is well. I thought it was the IAC but as long as its clean and you did not damage it, then I would consider that. I would say think about the MAF but in open loop the MAF is not a consideration for the PCM.

I'm going to have to wait until I do my long tubes in 2 weeks, to check behind the engine...suck man I hate the smell of the oil hitting the exhaust...and its gotta be that vacuum line in the back I think

Did you ever find the root cause?

I had the same problem today and refastening the loose rubber hose on the A.I.R. check valve seems to have fixed it. Will have to see tomorrow whether this is really the fix.

Check vacuum lines and do an idle relearn. If not that maybe idle air control valve.

Vaccum leak. Check the PCV hose behind the passenger head where the hoses merge.
