Default Going to look at an 02 SS - What to look for?

I'm going to look at a 2002 Camaro SS with 124k miles. We have agreed on a price of $7,350. It has a rebuilt T56 with documentation and a rebuilt motor - he wasn't able to find documentation on the rebuilt motor as it was rebuilt before he bought it. However, in the pictures he sent, the block does look extremely clean and he has been legit about everything else.

I am completely new to LS1's so I want to know what to look for while I'm test driving this car and checking it out. Does anyone have any suggestions?

About the Car:
New alternator
New Battery
Stereo deck
Z06 rims
G-force radial tires lots of tread left
Slp cat-back
Slp high flow cats
Slp y-pipe
Slp CAI Black wing filter
Slp Mass Flow
Ls6 water pump
Slp 180 thermostat
NGK Iridium spark plugs
Denso spark wires
Entire Clutch system replaced at 120k with spec stage 3 and flywheel
enigne rebuilt at 120k
R&M Ripper shifter
Skip-shift eliminator
Tranny rebuilt with billet performance parts at 120k
Fuel filter changed at 120k
Oil changed every 3000 with Valvoline full synthetic

Nice looking car, but I wouldn't have agreed on a price until you actually saw the car, drove it, kicked its tires, etc. Buying an F car is like any used car-just give it a good test drive, check its fluids, look for messed up, wavy body panels, miscolored paint denoting collision damage, etc. I don't put alot of stock in carfax or autocheck and services like that, but run the reports anyway...

That was my back up car in case I didn't buy this 00 SS out in Chandler when I flew out last Friday. Out of curiosity you wouldn't be one of the people who tried to buy it out from under my feet after I had bought the plane tickets were you? lol!

We wanted to agree on a starting point before I made 140 mile drive to see the car in person. $7350 is the price if everything checks out 100% like he said.

I ran the CarFax. It had two minor sideswipes and was maintained by a dealer up until 114,000 miles - so it was very well maintained.

For $7,300 I think I'm getting a good deal. Especially with the upgraded/rebuilt transmission.

Yeah it's a great deal. The real reason I pursued the 2000 SS over the that car was the suspension. Koni DA's on all 4 corners with 1.2 drop Vogtland springs, tubular rear control arms etc. And it was an original owner SLP Optioned car. I got a folder about 2inches thick of everything ever done to the car.

There were just a few things that irked me about that car. LS6 and LS1 waters pump is the same thing, it has a Spec clutch which if you search on here isn't liked to much and says he has Z06 wheels but pictures ZR1's. It sounds like he's trying to play up the car. Just do your homework, verify its a real SS(WU8 RPO code or you can email SLP and find out it's build number and what it was optioned with). Ask him why everything was rebuilt/replaced.

PS Sell me the Grill.

I ran the VIN, it's a real SS. But I will double check of course.

Also, in his newer ad he says ZR1 rims, seems like an easy enough mistake.

"Engine and trans both rebuilt at 120k."

If the car has only been driven 4k miles since the rebuild and he is selling it something doesn't add up.

Why would you rebuild both at 120k?

If he can provide proof or if you can get the car looked at by a GM dealer and it checks out go for it.

check it for any trouble codes, and pull a plug and do a compression check.remove the oil filler cap and put your hand over the filler neck.if you feel pressure against your hand the motor has ring blow by problems.

to the OP, that is a helluva deal buddy and don't let ppl state some of the deals they got influence you otherwise. i would still try to cleverly get it for 7k(which you should be able to do). sucks that there is no documentation on the motor.

You should definitely be able to talk him down a little bit more.
