Default headers question

I own a 99 trans am i am wanting to put headers on. My question is how hard are they to do on my car, and what is the best brand i should go with? Any help is appreciated.

They aren't bad to install as long as you make sure you get the car up high enough in the air to get them in. I would say 20"+ is needed since they have to go in from the bottom.

As far as which way to go, it just depends if you want to go stainless or mild steel. If you go mild steel, Pacesetter's are hard to beat. For the money they perform great and fit nicely as well. If you go stainless, Kooks and American Racing are both very nice!

Let me know what you are thinking and we can get you fixed up or answer any questions you have!

I love my Pacesetters. Good quality and easy installation. Mine took about 7 hours to install, with a few breaks in there. The real PITA for me was getting the old manifolds out.

Pacesetter if you have a budget, and Kooks if money is not a problem.

I really like my coated Pacesetters and Catted Y-pipe with magnaflow catback exhaust. I found installing the headers easy, but arranging the y-pipe and getting all the angles right so it tucks under perfect was the most time consuming part.

Just soak all the bolts over night with a penetrating oil.

took a couple hours to do my pacesetters all by myself late one night in my garage.....just don't get in a rush, if something is in your way, simply unbolt and move it.....the steering shaft had to come off to get the driver's side header in, it wasn't too bad.....if i remember right, it helped to remove the dipstick on the passenger side.....don't know how many miles your car has, but it's a good time to do new plugs and wires while you're at it....i had bad luck with the pacesetter y-pipe, i hear the TSP y is much better.....the oxygen sensor extensions are worth the extra $$, and make sure to torque all the bolts back to spec.

Yeah use some penetrating oil and let it soak in a while. You might still break the bolts off but that is typical. You will have to disconnect the steering shaft as well. They won't go in with it in place. Also, remember they are aluminum heads. You don't have to get crazy torquing the headers down. Just make sure they are good and snug. I would get the extensions for the O2 sensors as well. They are definitely worth it. You can reuse your stock exhaust manifold gaskets if you like. Just don't use the cheap paper gaskets. They will burn up and you will be replacing them shortly. Other than that, it's pretty straight forward. Take your time and you should be fine.

If you're on eBay definitely check out the stainless headers, I wish I did before I bought my Hookers. Don't get me wrong I like the Hookers but I could've gotten full stainless headers for much much less.

I should be able to beat Summit's pricing on Pacesetter. I have headers and y-pipes on the shelf.

TSP Header Pricing

However, I can't touch the ebay headers mentioned above. We don't price match ebay or much less an overseas produced header.
