I'm considering a Trans Am

Yep, I used to have a 98z, I really miss it. I found a nice 02 T/A with low miles on it, and I am thinking about picking it up next week.

I was wondering if there is still a decent amount of aftermarket love for these cars. My Z28 died in 05, and I have been driving foreign shit boxes since. So I have been out of the game for a while.

Basically all I want to do in the beginning, is a lid, exhaust, maybe headers, !CAGS, and all the free mods. Not really going for extreme sub 10 sec like my prius, but more or less something that will put a smile on my face during some leisurely driving.

Thanks.

Just picked up my '00 trans am m6 a few weeks ago. I love it. It's my first LS powered fbody but not my first fbody. I say do it. And there is soooooooooo much aftermarket. It gets a little frustrating Tryin to decide on parts cuz there are so many brands and shit to choose from.

i agree with ^^^^. i was in the same boat as you sold my 98 t/a in 2005. i just bought a 01 t/a a few months ago and was very surprised how much more aftermarket there is now than 5 years ago. whatever you are looking for someone somewhere sells it!!!

Can't really go wrong with either the Cmaro or the Trans Am..It's the same car..Just different styling..I've owned both both. I really loved My 02 WS6 6sp..But then again I also loved my white 99 camaro with a ls6 crate motor and every bolt on known to man.

I now have have a 01 Z with an auto and a Stall, and must admitt it's really fun too since it NBM and has T-tops with a grip of mods.

To each there own..I can't really decide..I always miss them when they are gone

Buy it

I think a prius might be able to hit 10's in the 1/8th.

ULTIMATEORANGESS Feb 6, 2011 09:21 AM

aftermarket is bigger than ever for ls1 fbodies.

whats your setup to get that prius running 10s?

He puts it the bed of his built Duramax:angel:

lol at the prius, but yeah parts are getting cheaper and cheaper for F-Bodies and they are one of the best platforms to build a fast car on.

Good to know... I will post pics if I get the car, but if not I will keep shopping around.

Even with low miles, a car this old is going to have issues? I am wondering about time sensitive parts, hoses, belts, gaskets? The power windows are painfully slow, any known fixes?

A F-body with decent miles that has been taken care of will be very reliable. If it's the right price I say go for it.

Don't let the idea of routine maintenance items deter you from the car, like the hoses, belts, gaskets, etc. As for the window motors, sounds like they're on the way out but replacing them is simple. There may be a 'mod or two for making them run faster than stock-I can't recall right now.

The only major things you'd have to worry about are the automatic transmission and the rear end-those two things are known weaknesses on these cars...

Will be looking for an M6 for sure, the car I am eyeballing right now is an M6.

BTW.... What ever happened to MTI? I bought a clear lid from them when I had my Z, but it looks like they are no longer around.

Get the car. I think you can still get an mti. I had one on the 98 i like it alot

The auto trans is not a weak spot on a stock car, and the rear holds up pretty well with an auto too. M6 cars tend to break the 10 bolt a lot though.

They are out of the modification game. Car sales now I think, or they may be out of business altogether now.
