im going threw a similar thing.. except i did mess up my block on my 5.7 and well... in case this helps this is what i got so far, and what im transferring over.... for my new set up for future STS
Now- 241 heads ( 5angle valve job, hand milled ported n polish, a 224/230 blower cam 114lsa, typical bolt ons.

im getting a lq4 from a friend, throwing in the blower cam in it, keeping the 317s in the long block, debating between an ls6 and ls2 intake... and later when i save up more get 60lb injectors, 255L fuel pump and the STS done

Keep in mind the truck 6.0L was only rated at 300HP and your ls1 is rated at 320+. so not only are you gaining weight, but you are losing hp and buring more gas. I have the ls2 stroker in my car and its great but unless you have a 408iron block engine its not worth the money that you could save just rebuilding your ls1. Besides I dont know your financial status but if your worried about a couple thousand to rebuild your ls1 then the forced induction will eat your lunch and is always double what you think it will be. The ls1 block can handle way more power than the rest of the car will. GL

Well I'm not sure how many ppl gave you opinions or facts about this swap, but I did this swap in my 99' Formula. And I say screw the LS1!!! The LQ9 is rated at 345 hp and the added wieght is 60lbs. Not to mention the torque gains which you will feel right away. You'll get more added wieght from having a passenger in your car or one of those stupid speaker boxes in the trunk. Including the motor with warranty and a few nice upgrades I spent around $1500 bucks. Try doing that with an LS1 motor.

Oh btw....if you do the swap, make sure you save all your sensor's from the LS1, you will need them!! And you will have to drill a hole for the alternator bracket. Everything else swaps over and bolts right on.

Personally I think the swap is worth it if, especially if youre plannig on boost in the near future. I put an lq9 in my car and im very happy with the results. But it's also not stock vs stock. You can see the mods in my signature and my car made just shy off 500whp through an auto with a pig rich tune. Im planning on a T56 swap soon and a retune which should bring it to around 525whp. So my whole point is that you don't see hardly any heads/cam ls1's making over 500 with an N/A setup. And what Wizard said is true as well, the weight difference is not significant enough to make a difference if you mod the motor. I've done a lot of research on lq9's and seen many people making 700+whp on the stock bottom end for years before blowing it up. The key is a good tune and not over reving it.

well thumbs up buddy 8) i been agreeing to this believe.. plus their is a lot more combo or diiffernt ways to go with a 6.0 than an ls1 .. a 6.0 can be turn into a a 402/408/418/427 stroker depending on set up, and it can be busted and make over +600rwhp on just 7 or 8psi, and depending if is a fresh up which mine will be 8) then shoot long lasting life

Another thing to keep in mind is that the iron 6.0 has a 4.00" bore, which really opens up your options with respect to cylinder heads. You can get a nice set of L92 heads with .650 springs for about $1500, and they easily outflow factory small bore (under 4.00") Gen III heads. Of course you would also need to get the L76 intake manifold with those heads but IIRC it's not too pricey.

The larger bore is good, but keep in mind he is buying a chevy truck motor which is the 300hp LQ4, not the LQ9 out of the cadillac escalade. The LQ4 has dish pistons which makes less hp n/a but is great for boost.

STS is in the future maybe next year .. i hope i can afford it but for now some MTI S2 heads, ls6 intake and ported TB will hold with a few bolt ons while i save up

Pretty much any shop can. My buddy owns his own trans shop, that's how I go about It
They are extremely cheap.
So you have to know somebody to buy from LKQ? I searched their inventory and found a few things I want in Manchester. I live just north of Nashville so that wouldn't be a bad trip for me.

Sorry, didn't see the thread bump.

Yes. However, I can get you in contact with someone that can get them, it is who we all go through. His shop is right down the road and is a good car buddy of mine.

IIRC it is actually the same price whether you pick it up or ship it, don't quote me on that however. I can verify that later.

If you want to do something shoot me a PM with what you are looking for and we will work everything out.

Are you in Hendersonville? If so you are about an hour and twenty minutes or so.

OK.....depends on the year block you buy....it should be exactly the same as an ls1 except for the bore. make sure you get and lq9 not lq4..it makes more compression. ...unless your going to spray. im doing the swap right now on my c5. if you have any specific questoins PM me
