Need help choosing a cam.
Hey, I need help choosing a cam. I'm looking for a strong HP and TQ gain but don't have a ton of money to spend. My car is a 2001 Firebird Formula which is all stock with the exception of a flowmaster cat-back system. The car is factory equipped with the LS6 manifold and a six speed. All I can afford to do right now is a cam swap, but I eventually will be putting some heads on the car. What would be a good cam for the HP and TQ gains and has an aggressive idle but would work well with an otherwise stock motor and eventually work well with some heads. Also, if you have any ideas what kind of power the cam you might recommend might make please let me know. I appreciate all the help, thanks.

I completely agree, I would defiantly get some long tubes on their with a better Y-Pipe, the stock one sucks. Then I would give Texas Speed a call and have them spec out a cam that would be the best for your application. I would also upgrade you intake lid if you didn't already, it is cheap and give a good bang for your buck.

+1 for that, its a whole different car when you get LTs and an ORY, AND they cost less than a cam. But hey , if you want 100% street legal car (passes the emissions aswell), cam is the way to go, cops dont have x-ray vision.

I appreciate all the help guys, very good points. This is my first project in a long time and I'm new to building an LS1 (former 5.0 Mustang guy). The airbox, headers and y pipe are getting there at the same time as the cam (I should have specified that, sorry) as well as possibly high flow mass airflow. I'm just waiting on doing the heads.

After full bolt on's, get heads and cam in the same time, don't wait for heads for a later time, H/C needs to go in together. Well that's what I heard, I'm still new on the whole LS1 game.

I don't know who told you that man, there are tons of people that have cammed LS1's with the stock heads.

241s aren't bad heads ,but 243/799 heads are better.you can get them for $400 or less.look at the streetsweeper cam from ed curtis,or consider a torquer v2 cam from TSP .you should make 390 rwhp with either cam and a good tune.you can find the cam install kit at TSP.

BoricuaHec, please stfu already with all your bullshit talking. You don't know **** about cars and had someone put your intake lid on because you didn't know how.
Just shut up already and don't ever give anyone technical advice again because you have zero experience, you don't know **** and you're an idiot of the worst possible kind.
