my 98 z28 ... oil type?
Ok so I want to run 10w-40 or maybe 15w-40. Any suggestions? I was going to put rotella15/40. Anyone use it in their LS1 yet?

If you live in the north east (which I would have to assume you do with the long island location), Why would you run heavy weight oil like 10 or 15 ?
The Ls1 is made to use 5w30 and if you use full synthetic (which i see no reason why you wouldn't) this should be more than decent for the vast majority of uses. Unless you've redone the engine or have some extreme environment, there is no reason to use a different spec oil. Heavier weights will just lower gas mileage and make turning the engine over in the winter harder.

i put 10w30 mobil 1 synthetic, oil pressure runs lower than i want. i want to make sure i have good oil and pressure... i know some people who have had BAD experiences with an LS1 throwing a rod or something while running Royal Purple. ive heard other talk about Rotella but i never used it before either, wanted to see who has.

well what psi does the gauge read when the motor is warm at idle? im guessing its around 30-40, if its lower than that with 10w-30 then you might want to check your gauge or the oil pump. these cars werent designed to run on 15w-40 thats diesel/flat tappet cam breakin oil(lots of zinc).

i just changed mine and put amsoil xl 5w-30 in it with some lucas synthetic stabilizer, carries good pressure and purrs like a kitten. that stabilizer is thick as molasses when you pour it out; everybody i have talked to that uses it loves it. when i was running 10w-30 (castrol synthetic) i noticed a slight lifter tick, especially cold. no way in hell would i use 15w-40 though..
