stick with ls1? or upgrade to newer style ls2?
Ok, so my first post was a super success in helping me, so here we go. My question is I have a 98 z28 with 140k miles on the motor. It's gone 12.80 with a consistent time of 12.90 all day. The problem is, that I am taking this motor out to freshen it up and get her all cleaned and inspected just cause I know it is not long before i blow her sky high lol. The thing is that everyone is suggesting I step up to a ls2 while I have the motor out, seeing how all the parts are interchangeable. I know I have the old style oiling ports in my motor is that gonna hinder me in anyway? Do I just buy an ls2 short block? if so, do I need a new wiring harness or computer? or am I just an idiot overthinking this? Its gonna be mildly built cam/heads added to my previous set up. Once again, thanks for the help! everyone was extemely helpful in my first post.

Not sure about the wiring harness, but, I would definitely swap in an LS2 shortblock if you have the funds, that's definitely a solid upgrade, or even an LQ9 would also be a good option, you can get those for real good prices. And yes, you're probably going to want a new tune on the car once everything is installed.

Ok cool, was just making sure you knew, ha. But, yeah, the LQ9 block is iron and it was in the Escalades, Silverado SS's, and a couple of the other high-end GM fullsizes, would be another very good choice and can be had for a pretty reasonable price.

I have a good intake, gonna do heads/cam combo also, but do i need to get a new computer? Or just get a tune? Idk if it makes a difference. I have a 98 z28. Is there anything else I could be missing?

By the way, I'm switching from ls1to ls2 cause they have a bigger cylinder bore, and a different oiling system within the block. My motor right now has 140,000 time for a freshen up, so I figured may as well upgrade and keep this motor off to the side. My ls1 being pre 99 has different castings than post 99. But I will say, I have not had ONE problem with this motor! At all!!

People switch to the ls2 because the bore size is larger = more cubic inches. You would have to at the bare minimum get ls2 pistons or new pistons with that bore size.
The only thing that is a direct swap would be an ls6 block and there's no reason to pay money for one since they are nearly identical and offer no gains.
EDIT: didn't see your post above, you already know what I said haha
