Default which LS engine for fast road/quarter mile runs

Ok guys,I am ready to start gathering information for my engine conversion. The car used in the process is a Nissan silvia 180sx. It is extremley clean and has a very good, low milage sr20det engine. It is stock though,so rather than spending my money tuning this engine I have decided to do a ls conversion and try and get some big power. Now the car is mainly a weekend, show car. I am thinking of also taking it for some quarter mile runs also. I am a little unsure as to which engine to use as my base. I am aiming for somewhere in the region of 450hp and may install a supercharger at a later date.
Which engine would be most suitable. Is the ls1 up to the job or should I be looking at another ?
Once I decide which engine to use then I can begin my research.

I am somewhere in between with budget. Not wanting to go for the most expensive option. Somewhere inbetween.

lq9/408 stroker will get you 450 no problem and handle boost no problem if you decide to do that in the future. that sr20det is a great engine as well ive seen many people make awsome HP with those engines

you could always stroke out an Ls1 right? I have forged internals in my 383 and Im told it could handle anything I throw at it.

It was meant to be a rhetoric question but I think I might have typed that out wrong. But what i was saying is he can get the cubic inches and have the forged internals to do anything he wants for what I assume would be less then a non stroked out ls2 with forged internals?

whats your budget ? a ls2 with l92 heads will make 450+rwhp with a mild cam.do you want to find a good used short block or long block ?or do you want a built engine.you can get a intake/ ignition set from elderbrock for a carb ,to do a stand alone engine.maybe check Texas Speed for some ideas and prices.look in the used parts sections at the bottom of the main forum page.

The intention is to buy a sikky conversion kit for my s13 for an LS. I was also going to use Cleveland Pick-A-Part,to purchase the engine ,transmission and everything else from donner car. A few from my car club have used Cleveland for engines and every thing went smoothly with importing to united kingdom.
So basically I need to choose an engine. I'm beginning to think an ls1 engine could be a good base to begin with as it may be the cheapest option. I would prefer to keep the engine pretty simple. I do not really have the experience to build a engine myself. It may be a good idea to buy a good low milage ls1 and research on getting the most out of it. Not unless their is another LS with forged internals.

Have had a think about it and goal is a reliable 500hp motor with room for potential.

Yeah, the sr20det is a great engine. Mine is the last model blacktop engine and is low milage. Problem is it's standard. Not a bad thing but anything above 380hp without forged internals and your playing the waiting game before it self distructs. So it would be around 3000 gbp minimum to forge it. Then I need ecu upgrade, turbo kit etc, etc. I'm also looking for realibility. Thier are two people I know who have v8 Silvia's. One has a ls1 and use it for competing in drifting. The other has a ls2 with some minor mods internally and a prochargwe fitted. It's running around 610hp. Both these guy's had sr20det's running above 600hp and sold them to go v8. They must have done that for a reason.

5.3 with a ls6 cam and depending on mileage and planned boost add a timing chain, oil pump, head gasket and studs. With a just the 5.3 in there it will scoot but once you add boost it will grow wings and take off...

id go for an ls1. Aluminum block would probably suit your silvia a bit better in the weight department.

60lbs isnt going to affect much, especially when you consider the extra power of the 6.0 over the ls1.
