I would go cam first..... The 102 may be too much without the cam.. And the cam should garner better hp per $

No matter which cam you choose you'll still basically need the same parts. ex: Valve springs, retainers, locks, push rods etc......

the 228r is a badass cam. id take it over the ms3 anyday. it will surprise you. either way, as mentioned you have to strengthen up the valvetrain or you could do some damage. calls texas speed and just get the kit with the .650 springs or .700's and it should run close to $700 for it all including pushrods too. you can do the install yourself, and id strongly advise that you swap to an ls2 timing chain while in there. youll make around 400-410 rwhp im guessing. run low 7's with a good 1.6 60 foot and a stall (the stall will make it alot faster) , but yet again, without a stall its going to try to push you through red lights and stop signs. it gets aggrivating to have to stand on the brakes all the time. you can give PTC a call, or buy my damn near new 3200 10'' inch race converter from them that I had with my 228r. it was $500 new, I'll take $400. so all in all, if you install it all yourself, your looking at about 1100-1200 dollars plus a tune. if someones installing it for you id expect anywhere from 1650-$2100 installed and tuned. depends on how big a crook you find to do the work.

You can't run the MS3 with the stock stall. But id start with stall and gears first. Then go cam. Then heads. Then intake.

Do a stall before anything else. You'll be glad you did!

I agree. Stall and gears first. You'll have to get your tune tweakdd a little for shift points and such. However, wait to do the intake the same time you do the cam. You will save money in the long run by not having to pay for a tune twice.

Long story short, big cams are not a budget way of going fast, max effort cams require max effort parts, fast intake/at least 4.10 gears/1 7/8th headers/a good dual exhaust/chris1313 etc, ms3 is a good cam but i would do more research 90% of people that go with a big cam wish they would have gotten something smaller, imo i would go with something in the low 230range, if your after the sound you can get a big cam sound on a much smaller profile

With that said, i would do a stall first, run a ls6 intake for awhile untill you can get some of the main parts, then when you have it running good go for the fast

Now you have to descide if your gonna spray or not. If you are then something onn the order of a SS3600-4000 Yank. If your not then a PT4000 like I'm running. If you are gonna run 26" tires get the 3.73 gears. If your running a 28 " tire then a 4.11. Yukon make the quietest gears I've ever had installed.

Had tons of people and even this same guy telling me all this bull before I bought my cam as well. Blah Blah Blah big cams suck yatta yatta. I love mine and the way it made my car run. Low 12s in a gto with cam and bolt ons, winning.

Im pretty sure 98% of this dudes posts are hating on big cams. They all say the same stuff too lol
