ls1 or lq4
Well i was going to build my ls1 and stroke it out to a 383 but i found a lq4 block for only $300. What do you all think would be the better build keep my ls1 and continue with the 383 or go with the lq4 and make it a 408?

well i already have a set of 243s that have been milled to 62cc and was planing on getting them p&p. So if i could keep them and still make some pretty good power i would be happy lol. What do you think the power potential would be with the 243 less than with a ls3 set up?

the lq4/lq9 is 90-96 lbs heavier... now it all depends on your internals...
If you move the battery to the trunk, and go tubular k-member and control arms then you got rid of that extra weight and got 30lbs to the back for more hook...
personaly... i think you can make 500 n/a on a ls1... just look around at what some boys are making...

in my opinion 500 hp is more than enough for most, and these f-bodys are heavy enough. if you plan on auto cross or anything other than drag racing i would say ls1, if you car is going to be a drag car lq4 all the way.

It will be easier to make power with bigger cubes..especially the tq in the midrange will really carry through the band.Even without using an ls3 topend.Reuse all your ls1 parts from the front accessories, oil pan..pickup tube..tray,use the ls1 steamlines from the 241 heads.get an ls6 intake, pnp the 243 heads..cheap extra hp there,do small upgrades to the bottom end..arp bolts..bump the compression a lil more. With a good spec'd cam and exhaust..you will sneeze over 460whp/tq.
The extra weight you pickup on the front was barely noticeable and there are many ways to easily take weight off elsewhere.I wouldnt be too concerned about it for a mostly street car.
Building a n/a ls1 to near 500whp without spray gets sketchy.many get them there..and few of the masters here build them to last on the abuse it will see.But read whats involved in those builds..not the most budget friendly ls1's
