1998 Trans Am LS1
I recently purchased an 1998 Trans Am LS1 and it is a sunset orange color I believe. I have heard that it is a rare color for the trans ams and didn't know this at the time. Is it true? If it is does it up the value much?

Based on your description, your color is most likely Red-Orange Metallic, RPO 96U. That is the only factory color for '98 that matches your description (although if it's been repainted then it could be anything).
The only way that a color will increase the value of a car is if someone specifically is willing to pay more for a certain color, but if you can't find one of those "special" buyers then it won't be worth any more than a red or black car. I've never heard of anyone being on a specific quest for your particular color before, but there is always a first time. The only color that seems to have a significant price premium is Hugger Orange (Camaro only).
