Red Z6,
IMO, if you really want to keep it SMOG legal then get a set of shorty headers, and be done with it; LT headers are not a option.
Focus on what you can do:
Get a SLP air lid, SLP LS6 intake, port the TB,and a nice cat-back exhaust on it.
If you have a A4, get a 3200-3600 Stall TC, or 3.89 gears and a better shifter for a M6.
Have the factory heads cnc ported and milled or buy some AFR-210s(CARB legal).
I'd also put a small cam in it. You want one bigger than a LS6, but no bigger than a 220/228 114lsa. FYI, you'll need to stick with a traditional split pattern cam because of the more restrictive CA legal exhaust; no 224/224 cam.

the gain from aftermarket shorties is minimal. i was lucky to have them on my car when i bought it, but i wouldn't have spent the money on them otherwise. your best bet for cali is to get some long tubes and and swap them out every two years when your smog is due. but even that gets old.....
