Default Ls3 crate motor

I started talking to a few different local shops about the ls3 crate motors and they area all saying that these are thrown togeather in Mexico and are not made with high standards in mind in terms of some of the parts that are used. Is there a big difference vs what would come in a 2013 camaro or is it the same motor with the same parts thats also from mexico? All the shops said they could build me something much stronger in terms of power and internal parts but of course they were also all 3-4k higher than the crate. I don't plan on dragging the car but from what Im being told from a few different spots is that these things are a ticking time bomb waiting to go off. Jegs has them shipped for 6300 so I figured something was wrong. Anyone running one of these crates that can give some insight?

Unless they are all made in Mexico? I don't care where it's built as long as It's not junk. Ive been saving and saving and saving so I just want to spend my money wise to avoid future problems.

I would give a GM Performance Parts dealer a call, Pace or Scoggins/Dickey for the straight answer on where they are built and if they are the same as the installed engines.

Everyone will be biased for what they provide but it seems the biggest question you are asking should be a pretty straight forward answer.

Let us know what you find out.

I agree, just call a couple of GM Performance Parts dealers and ask. I would call a couple just to make sure they give the same answer. Then ask whoever you are going to buy it from.

Just click on the Locate a Store tab in the link to find local dealers.

It should be the samething. My truck (2010 Sierra) was completely assembled in Mexico (nothing new) and no biggie.

According to the specs given by GM they are being built in Silao, Mexico.

if you can look for a local reputable builder that might have blocks they can build for you. that way you can get what you want.

dont look for the cheapest option but a cost effective one.

Agreed with this. The only reason I'd consider the crate engine is for the warranty. Is that a concern, OP?

No the warranty isnt really a concern it was more about whats going to stand up longer etc. Some of the stuff I was reading on the crate motors was scary. And I agree with making it cost effective vs Cheap. I guess you pay it upfront or you pay it on the back end if you have a problem with the motor. One of the sponcers on here has an LS3/427 Short block for like $4400 until Friday. That's kinda what I mean about the crate motor vs an engine builder. Yes its a short block but after heads and a cam it should be right around the same only it will have higher graded parts. I guess I should of made this listing with the title I have $6500 and no motor whats the best way to spend it.
