I'm sure this has been covered somewhere but I spent many hours with the search bar and reading as much as I can.

So here it is I decommissioned my off road rig for a total makeover. It's an 1989 ranger with an old tired 2.9 V6. Pretty much I'm ready for a change its been a trail rig and occasionally a DD when I'm between cars or want to roll with no doors.

As odd as it sound seeing that I own a ranger I'm not a Ford fan and as far as dropping a Fuel injected V8 into anything you can't beat the LS motors everyone knows that.

My question is which motor would be best for me.
I want to keep the truck as light as possible and I want the best power weight and reliability for the best price.
Also obviously it's gonna be in a 4x4 with manual trans.

I would try to find a L33 aluminum 5.3L first. It was in the 05-07 1500 chevy/gmc pickups. If that isn't a option I would start to look for LQ4, LQ9, 6.0L's or the LM7 5.3L. All 3 are iron but can be had for a cheap price if you look around.

If your looking for best price 5.3 is much cheaper and can make similar power.
