Default questions on cams/converters

my cam has a worn lobe and decided if i have to put one in go with a after market cam 224r or 228r could i run the car without a stall for a bit or would i need a stall and out of those two cams which would be better for a daily driver/drag car. in the end i want to make around 390-400. i should say later see how still have to put the motor back together

For stock stall TSP224r, i have driven a 228r on a stock stall before and it was drivable also, you just gotta have it tuned.

the car has 2k on it im pulling it and doing a rebuild to the bottom end add arp rod bolts and going from the stock 806 heads to 853 heads with the cam rods and springs just unsure of which cam would be worth it to do originally i was going to put a stock z06 cam but since im already that far taught otherwise. out of the 224r and 228r which would be the best planing on tsp long tubes and tsp true duel exhaust. still want a drivable car but with that get up when i need it?

The truth is you would be better off performance wise by installing a used stock truck cam and reusing as many parts as possible so save money to buy a good stall converter. In a drag race between 2 A4 f-bodies, one with a cam and bolt ons, and one with a 5.3 truck motor and a good 4000rpm stall converter I'd put my money on the one with the truck motor. It would also be more fun to drive on the street than a cammed car thats lazy off off the line and pulling through the brakes at stop lights and signs. I understand wanting to upgrade things while they're apart but it just doesn't always make sense if you can't upgrade every thing you need.

It's not that the 5.3 is a better motor, it's that a 5.3 with a good 4000rpm stall converter would be a better performing combination than a cammed LS1 with a stock torque converter.

A 4k stall seems pretty high. Most mid size cams 228-234 intake duration are taken care of by a 3k to 3200 stall. Above that a 3200-3400 should handle them but you would def at least need a 373 gear.
We have any cam you are looking for even custom for THE BEST price and a wide selection of stalls.
Give us a pm,email, call and we can fix you up!

I wouldn't want to daily a 4k stall, 3200 should be fine with a 224r daily driving.

You can daily a nice 2800 stall for a 224 also. 2800-3000 would be my max recommendation on that...which would actually stall around 100-200 more rpm.
