Default any way to get doors to look when put in gear?

Hi guys,

I just bought a 99 ws6 t/a. Is there a way to program the car to lock the doors when I put in gear and to unlock when I put in park or turn off ignition?

My 2005 gmc 1500 does this and my old grand prix did too.

Thanks for any help.

Ryan

Why would you want that? I hate that part about my Grand Prix and Malibu winter beaters.

Because when my wife drives the car she won't remember to lock it. She has to drive through a rough part of town sometimes.I'd rather her be safe. Same for me. Anyone could just walk up and open the door.

I can't think of many reasons you'd need the door to be unlocked while it's in gear?

As far as i can tell from the owners manual this is not possible. I would expect it to be in the first part of chapter two under the part about keys, power door locks, or customizing the alarm system. If you lost your owners manual you can get the digital version directly from GM's website for free at https://my.vauxhall.co.uk/content/da...ird_owners.pdf

If it's not a function the BCM can be programmed to do, there's gotta be a way to wire relays to control the locks with the neutral safety switch if that were an easier option than her learning to lock the doors lol

Haha....that's already in the car (actually she carries a glock 42) but under the seat is too hard to get to in a pinch.

If it can't be programmed, the neutral safety/gear shift idea is a good direction.

I know its entirely possible to do with aftermarket alarms/keyless entry units. I think reprogramming would be easier than a relay, as the difficulty will be that the nss is triggered in park and neutral and the car is left in park when not running.dumSo your relay will always be triggered, causing about a drain on the battery, and if you have a normally open relay wired in, the doors will never unlock so long as the car is in park or neutral. Wire it normally closed would work with the locking portion, though at that point you'd never be able open the door unless it wasnt in gear.

Oh! I had an idea!

If you wire the relay to the reverse switch then that would solve your issues. As your wife pulls the lever from park to drive you'll hit reverse, activating the relay and locking the door. that'll solve the battery drain issues as well as the constant locking issue.
