Default Xenon Body Kit + SS Hood

Was thinking of adding both to my 2000 triple black Z-28.

Wondering if its going to sabotage performance due to the added weight, or is it not really all that much of a difference.

All I have is SLP lid and SLP LM. Will be that way for awhile.

Asked in body/chasis forum as well. Looking for as much insight as possible.

honestly hood is good idea.. added horses if you get the right one. but for a body kit how much it cost and then installation and paint.. i would just get performance parts, performance before look i personaly dont like body kits on cars like the camaro and ws6.

Lol thanks for your .02 99camaross_. I dont really race all that much and Im more concerned w/ looks right now. But back to my original ? will it add tremendous weight inturn hurting performance?

i htink it depends on what you like..i mean do you want to be some1 thats a head turner or just fast..If your the type that likes looks over power than i would definitely do it however if your the type that would rather go fast screw it and get all performance parts

SS hood would look good for looks only. I highly doubt you will see any increase in hp/trq. As for the body kit, use that money towards some power mods.

if you went fiberglass with the hood, it would probably offset the weight of the body kit.. i dont know the exact weights for sure, but thats something to think about...

if you're not interested in the performance then who cares about the weight I'm not a fan of any aftermarket body kits on F-Bodys ... what does this "Xenon body kit" look like?

oh and to answer your original question... common sense

More weight = slower car
but unless this body kit weighs a ton impact on performance would be minimal... figure 100lbs = 1/10th a second in the 1/4 mile

Go by shipping weight on the vendor's site, subtract
a couple of pounds for the box. I don't think the air
dam, skirts, etc. should amount to more than 10lb
of polyurethane plastic. Maybe more for the wing.

If lowering is in your future plan then you might want
to not hang the plastic on, at all. Unless you have
really nice roads....

I think the body kit looks pretty good...(that's the xenon kit on your car isn't it mako?). But IMO, it looks good on someone elses car. But that's just because traditionally, I'm not a fan of body kits in anyway.

Thing to remember, to many of us, our cars are just like self-esteem. If YOU think it looks better, it will look better to everyone else too. On the same topic, if you're just going for looks (which I gathered), consider whether your going to be lowering the car in the future. This can have a huge impact on which body kit you should go for. You don't want to spend the time and money on the kit, installation, painting etc., just to tear it up on a low slung sled.

the reason i would say performance first.. is cuz you can have a really nice lookin car wit body kit.. and i mean ive seen sum really nice ones but then when you race and get smoked it kinda pointless..

get the body kit if you want it.. you wont see a decrease in your performance.. and if there was it would be very minimual but if your just going for looks then it dont matter.

My car has a body kit, mecham hood and SS spoiler.. The hood is A LOT lighter than the stock hood.. same with the Spoiler. The body kit probably weighs somewhere around 10lbs .. they are very light....... I do have performance mods and I haven't been smoked.."yet"

I do agree with everyone and I agree with you too, I like the body kit.... before you consider the body Kit... consider your state's road.. is the road nice? Speed bumps galor? Do you have the patience to go sideways on ramps, driveways and speed bumps?

I have the body kit with the LT Headers and Dual Exhaust and the car is lowered with the pro kit... I also don't drive my car everyday, its more of a "Toy" car - so I don't really drive the car in "unknown" areas. If I had to drive this car daily, it would be stressful because I have to watch out for speedbumps and go sideways going up on ramps... and avoid construction roads.

To answer your question.... The added weight of the body kit and "lose" of weight from the hood will just even it out... but consider the other factors that will make your life difficult..

Ha ha ha. I guess that was called for.. lol

One of the pics was before the SS spoiler, but it gives the person interested in the body kit of how much it will affect the "height" of the car.
