Default What are highest stock HP ratings for Camaros and TA"s

I'm looking to buy either a Camaro or TA convert and I'm wondering if somebody can give me the stock HP ratings for these cars 1998-2002. I'm looking to do some mods after I get it but would just as soon start with more horses. If there is a place to look this info up just let me know. Thanks

I'm going to add this to my sig I think:

"An LS1 is an LS1 is an LS1"

They all basically make the same power. If jrp is around, he can post up the factory ratings. He's good with that stuff.

Get an 01 or 02 they have higher factory #'s. I have seen stock 02's dyno 330 rwhp. Most dyno 310 rwhp. They already have the ls6 intake and Z06 clutch, better slave and master cylinder for the clutch as well. Some 02's have the ls6 block. You need to check the casting #'s on the back of the block with a mirror.

Avoid the 98 & 99 they have the least Hp to start, but mod well.

Like unit213 said jrp is good with these questions.

The LS6 block does nothing for power...just fyi.

I agree with davered00ss though. An '01-'02 is a little stronger than the 99-00 LS1's due to the LS6 intake and slightly better exhaust manifolds.

00 had the same type of manifolds as the 01-02's but the same cam as the 98-99

Correct me if I am wrong. Didn't the 01'and 02' get a smaller CAM?

The "truck" cam with more low end is what came in 01 and 02.

To answer the question though, the 02 Firehawk had the highest "rating" with 345hp. The 02 SS could have the 345 rating if the lid and exhaust was specified during WU8 and Y2Y ordering.

Could you get the 345hp in a convert?

to my own dismay the 98-99 have about 305 rwhp and 330 rwtq. Mustang owners, at least the ones I know will try to tell ya that those numbers are at the fly, but numerous dyno stats, and track times show the real truth. The newer the better, but even us 98 owners still have enough power to scare the **** out of women passengers.

My stock '98 ran the same numbers stock 01-02s did at the track. The difference is small enough in the real world that it is almost negligable.

I think there all very close in stock HP #s, but i'd reccomend getting an 01'-02'. They just look cleaner under the hood and already have the LS6 intake, which is about as good as it gets.

Yeah... I just wouldn't get hung up on finding one with the 345 package. If you plan on doing exhaust and a lid, it won't make any difference.

don't forget the 99+ models get the piston slap and oil consumption problems too

Granted the 2001-2002 with the ls6 intake, and better clutch hydrolics are nice to have, but you can easily upgrade the older models (or upgrade to better parts)

Ryan.

Everyone on this site says our cars have 300+ rwhp, but other various sites that have specs on lots of cars, say that our cars have 305 -320 (depending on year) at the flywheel. Considering I have never put my car on a dyno, I have no idea which is true. My car is an A4, does that mean ill have less rwhp than a M6? Any info you guys have will help out a lot!

cars with automatics put a little less power to the wheels than the manual cars(about 5% less). But automatics , especially ones with a good torque converter launch pretty damn good IMO.
